An earthquake measuring 6.1 on the Richter scale was felt in the region of West Palm Beach, Florida, where the England team is concentrated for the 2026 World Cup. The earthquake, which occurred this Monday (06/09/2026), caused a scare among the English delegation, but did not change the team’s schedule. The epicenter was recorded on the west coast of Cuba, in the Gulf of Mexico, about 640 kilometers from Florida.

Limited impact and tsunami warning dismissed

The tremor was noticed in several cities in Florida, including Orlando, Miami and Tampa. Despite the magnitude, there were no reports of material damage to the English team’s facilities or injuries. American authorities, including the United States Geological Survey (USGS), quickly ruled out any risk of a tsunami. A 6.1 quake, although considerable, had its impact on land mitigated by the great distance from the epicenter and the possible depth of the quake, as well as Florida’s resilient infrastructure.

Preparation continues normally for the World Cup

Even after the incident, the training schedule of the team led by Thomas Tuchel was maintained. The team continues to prepare to face Costa Rica this Wednesday, in Orlando, in what will be the last friendly before the World Cup debut. The normality of work reinforces the security of the delegation and the absence of significant threats.

English delegation prepares for final friendly

England have been in Florida since last week, using temporary facilities for the final phase of preparation. After the clash against Costa Rica, the delegation will travel to Kansas City, in the state of Missouri, which will serve as a base during the World Cup dispute. Last Saturday, the team played a friendly match and beat New Zealand 1-0.

England’s debut at the 2026 World Cup

England is part of Group L of the 2026 World Cup, where they will face Croatia, Ghana and Panama. The English team’s debut is scheduled for June 17th, against Croatia, in Arlington, Texas. The tournament is approaching, and Thomas Tuchel’s team is looking to improve its performance in the last tests.
