Stellantis announced this Tuesday (9) the recall of more than 1.3 million Jeep SUVs and pickup trucks on a global scale because of a defect that could create a fire risk. The automaker recommended that owners park vehicles outside, away from buildings and other cars, until repairs are completed.

The call involves the Jeep Wrangler and Jeep Gladiator models manufactured between model years 2021 and 2025. The problem is in an electrical connection in the wiring of the electro-hydraulic power steering pump, which, in unusual situations, can cause nearby materials to overheat and, therefore, start a fire in the vehicle.

The campaign covers approximately 1.08 million units in the United States, 106 thousand in Canada, 23 thousand in Mexico and approximately 125 thousand in other countries. The numbers were released by Stellantis itself.

The anticipated solution includes component inspection and, if necessary, repair or replacement of the wiring harness or power steering pump. The company works to speed up the delivery of parts.

Stellantis said it is accelerating efforts to make the fix available as soon as possible and hopes to complete the process by July. Owners must wait for official communication to schedule free service at dealerships.

The manufacturer received reports of a possible injury linked to the defect, but there is no record of accidents or deaths related to the problem to date.
