New look and accessibility features

The remaster preserves the story set between two interconnected worlds and the dynamic 2D battle system called Linear Motion Battle System (A-LMBS). Among the main new features are visual icons to facilitate navigation — such as “!” yellow for main destinations, “★” for valuable items and hourglass for timed events — plus full subtitles for cutscenes, minigames and combat.

Other additions include battle replay mode after defeat, automatic saving, skipping events and scenes, adjustable combat speed, voice language switching and color vision support. The “Mania” difficulty level is available from the start, and there are interface adjustments and text corrections.

This is the continuation of Bandai Namco’s strategy of revitalizing classic titles in the seriesTales, which turns 30 in 2025, bringing 2D mechanics to current consoles at a time when remasters of old JRPGs are gaining new momentum with the Switch 2.

Why this matters to fans

For those who have never played, the title introduces striking elements of the franchise, such as Mystic Arts and an epic narrative about bonds between characters like Reid, Farah, Keele and Meredy. The remaster makes it easier to access modern features without changing the essence of frenetic combat and exploration.
