Juventus are very close to signing Emiliano “Dibu” Martínez. The Argentine goalkeeper, currently at Aston Villa, has already reached an agreement in principle with the Italian club for next season.
According to information from Italian vehicles and Sky Sports, negotiations have progressed quickly in recent days. Dibu, who is focused on the Argentine national team, accepted a three-year contract proposal, until 2029, with an annual salary of around 5.5 million euros net, a value lower than what he receives in England.
The move comes after Juventus failed to sign Alisson Becker. The Brazilian, Liverpool’s starter, is expected to remain at the English club, which paved the way for a bet on the 33-year-old Argentine.
Martínez is going through a good time. He was a key player in Aston Villa’s victory in the Europa League last season, with outstanding performances in decisive games. His experience in high-level competitions and his history with Argentina, including the 2022 World Cup, weigh in his favor.
On Aston Villa’s side, the club would be willing to negotiate the player for amounts in the region of 15 million euros. Juventus, however, is trying to close the operation below 10 million, considering the goalkeeper’s age and the fact that he has a contract until 2029.
Martínez’s arrival would represent an important reformulation in Vecchia Signora’s goal. Juventus is looking for greater security in the position after an irregular season with the current goalkeepers. The Argentine is seen as a natural leader, good with his feet and a specialist in difficult defenses, characteristics that fit the bill to return to fight for titles.
The official announcement should take place in the coming days, if the parties reach a definitive agreement on the transfer. Meanwhile, Dibu remains focused on preparing Argentina for international commitments.
