Kirk Herbstreit has been a fixture on college football Saturdays for more than three decades, but the off-season is no longer an obstacle for him to stay close to fans.
The analyst for ESPN’s College GameDay announced on Monday that he has joined Cameo, a personalized video platform where fans can subscribe to tailored messages from public figures.
The decision suits the style of someone whose brand has always been based on accessibility and proximity. Herbstreit’s audience extends far beyond the core college football fanbase, and Cameo gives that group a direct channel into it.
Herbstreit’s New Side Job on Cameo
Posting to Instagram on Monday, Herbstreit immediately announced his arrival on the platform. “I’m now available on @cameo! If you’re looking for a message for Father’s Day, a birthday, an encouragement for someone, whatever, just ask on Cameo,” he wrote.
He even teased the possibility of a cameo from his golden retriever, Peter.
“You never know, but Peter might even make a cameo in the video I record for you.”
For each US$199 reservation, Herbstreit is among the most expensive options on the platform, with videos lasting an average of almost two minutes. The value reflects your position in the sports media hierarchy.
For fans who want to deliver something truly memorable for Father’s Day or a birthday, a personalized message from one of college football’s most recognizable voices is now a solid possibility.
Kirk Herbstreit’s Journey: From Ohio State Quarterback to Broadcasting Icon
Before becoming the main face of College GameDay, Herbstreit played quarterback at Ohio State, where he was team captain in 1992.
His transition from player to analyst didn’t happen overnight, but the credibility he gained on the field gave authenticity to his comments, which resonated soon after he joined ESPN in 1996.
Three decades later, Herbstreit holds two main roles: lead college football analyst for ESPN and narrator of NFL games on Amazon Prime Video’s Thursday Night Football. This combination of work in college and in the professional league places him in a select group among narrators.
College GameDay has seen record viewership numbers in recent seasons, and Herbstreit has been a central part of that growth.
