WhatsApp will stop working on iPhones with iOS versions prior to 15.5 from November 30th. The change applies to both the conventional application and WhatsApp Business and represents another step by Meta to focus on updated operating systems.
The decision follows the company’s pattern of periodic updates, which seeks to balance security, performance and the number of users impacted. Those on iOS 15.0 to 15.4 will need to update their device before the deadline to avoid interruptions.
Which iPhones will still be supported
The good news is that most affected devices do not require hardware replacement. Any iPhone capable of running iOS 15 can receive the update to 15.5 or newer versions. Models such as iPhone 6s, 7, first generation SE and later, if kept up to date, continue to be supported.
The last relevant discontinuation occurred in May last year, when support for iPhones 5 and 6/6 Plus ended. This time, Meta estimates that the impact will be low, thanks to internal research on user profiles.
Expanded support for multiple accounts
In parallel with the iOS announcement, WhatsApp expanded the availability of the multiple account feature on Apple’s system. Initially announced in March, the function now reaches more users through version 26.22.76 of the app.
With it, you can manage two different accounts on the same iPhone without having to install WhatsApp Business or use tricks. Switching between profiles can be done in the settings or directly via push notifications, including for calls from an inactive account.
This new feature makes life easier for those who separate personal and professional use, reducing dependence on extra devices or alternative solutions.
What changes in practice for users
Anyone using older iPhones should check the system version now and update if possible. Meta emphasizes that the measure helps to deliver security fixes and new features more efficiently. Software updates like this also set the stage for future features that require newer hardware and software.
