New information arrives for players eagerly awaiting The Elder Scrolls 6. Eight years after the initial announcement, Bethesda has not released major details at the moment, but assured that the long-awaited RPG is evolving in an “incredible” way.
At the same time, a Bloomberg report indicated that Xbox’s current leadership is planning a significant wave of layoffs. In addition, the division would be making substantial cuts in marketing budgets and in several other internal areas of the company.
The Elder Scrolls 6 gets “amazing” update from Bethesda after long hiatus
The long-awaited The Elder Scrolls 6 has gotten a rare update from Bethesda, nearly a decade after its formal announcement. In a recent interview, Matt Booty, head of content at Xbox, revealed that he had been following the RPG’s progress and described the project as “amazing”, although a new release window was not communicated.
According to Booty, the team prefers to wait for the ideal moment to show the game to the public. He stated that he visited Bethesda, spoke with Todd Howard and saw the development of Elder Scrolls in progress, ensuring that the title is impressive and at an excellent production pace.
Recently, Todd Howard had reiterated that most of the studio is dedicated to the RPG, however, he pointed out that the launch “will take a while” to happen.
Xbox articulates mass layoffs and operational spending cuts, vehicle points out
Microsoft is preparing for a new round of layoffs in its Xbox division, according to a report published by Bloomberg. The layoffs are expected to occur after the end of the company’s fiscal year, on June 30, and may impact areas such as marketing and other internal operations, although the exact number of employees affected has not been specified.
This possible restructuring comes after statements from Xbox CEO, Asha Sharma, who declared the need for the company to reevaluate its strategic priorities.
In an internal statement obtained by Bloomberg, the executive expressed that the business’s annual revenue has fallen in recent years and emphasized that “this cannot continue.” She added that the company needs to “reevaluate the balance” between investments in studios, content and other strategic fronts.
Cost Concerns Affect Next Xbox Console
Xbox is rethinking the approach to its next-generation console, internally called Project Helix, in the face of rising costs for key components like memory and storage.
Matthew Ball, director of strategy for the division, indicated that the company is looking for alternatives to keep hardware at an affordable price, without compromising its long-term objectives. In an interview with The Game Business, Ball mentioned that Microsoft is “struggling hard to rethink everything possible about the Helix”, highlighting the importance of making the device more flexible and accessible for users.
The executive also commented on plans for the next generation of Xbox, saying: “We are striving to rethink what the console model can be, not in an exclusionary way, but in an additive way.”
Possible Resident Evil Requiem DLC may have release delayed
Resident Evil Requiem enthusiasts may need to wait longer than expected for a potential story expansion. Rumors spread by insider Dusk Golem suggest that the additional content of the new chapter of the franchise may only be available after the release of the remake of Resident Evil Code: Veronica, which does not yet have a confirmed date.
According to the information released, Capcom would be prioritizing other projects in the series before allocating resources to developing extra content for Requiem. Dusk Golem stated that “rumor has it that the Resident Evil 9 DLC will be released after Resident Evil Veronica”, noting that plans may change depending on public reception of the game.
New expansion arrives for Dying Light 2: Stay Human
Techland has just released a new content expansion for Dying Light 2: Stay Human. Called The Breach, the new feature was made available along with update 1.28 and marks the beginning of an initiative focused on community-generated content, offering new experiences, rewards and challenges to players.
The developer reported that the expansion introduces the “Survival Archives”, in addition to the return of the characters Tolga and Fatin with alternative maps and new scenarios. Rafal Polito, User Generated Content Program Manager at Techland, stated that by “providing players with the right framework and tools, we are enabling them to create and share new experiences within the world of Dying Light 2.”
The Breach schedule predicts the emergence of a new “reality” each week, with the following dates confirmed:
- Atomborne — Souls Style, Climax, Supernatural (June 10-18)
- Dead Circuit — Infiltration, Science Fiction, Suspense (June 18 to 25)
- Archipelago — Treasure Hunt, Exploration, Atmospheric (June 25 – July 2)
- Quiet Apartment — Suspense, Mystery, Violence (July 2 to 9)
