The Pentagon has made public an unprecedented collection of government records detailing encounters with unidentified flying objects, expanding the population’s access to previously confidential data. The release, which took place this Friday (22), brings to light impressive descriptions of anomalies in the sky, such as green spheres and disc-shaped structures that flew over the territory of the United States. This strategic move meets a direct directive from President Donald Trump, who seeks to accelerate the declassification of materials accumulated since the 1970s.
The measure represents the second large volume of information made available by American military authorities in a short period. The central objective of this transparency policy is to demystify the topic before civil society, transferring the debate from the field of conspiracy theories to rigorous public and scientific scrutiny, allowing independent researchers to have access to the same information as defense analysts.
Investigation of Light Anomalies at New Mexico Military Installations
Among the most extensive materials in this new batch, a 116-page dossier focused exclusively on incidents that occurred around Sandia, New Mexico, stands out. Historically, this region housed laboratories crucial to the development of the American nuclear arsenal, which makes the presence of aerial intruders a matter of the highest national security. Records indicate that, between 1948 and 1950 alone, 209 unexplained visual occurrences were documented in this restricted area.
Sentinels and researchers at the time repeatedly described the appearance of glowing greenish globes and masses of fire crossing the base’s airspace. The wealth of details contained in these historical reports demonstrates that the monitoring of these anomalies was treated extremely seriously by the armed forces shortly after the end of the Second World War, a period marked by the beginning of the Cold War and the fear of advanced technological espionage.
Surprising accounts from astronauts during the lunar mission
The declassified collection also goes beyond the Earth’s atmosphere, revealing intriguing episodes experienced by pioneers of space exploration. Post-flight medical documents from the Apollo 12 mission show that astronauts Charles “Pete” Conrad, Richard “Dick” Gordon and Alan L. Bean faced visual disturbances while trying to rest in the darkness of the spacecraft. They reported the clear perception of sudden flashes and luminous trails crossing their field of vision.
Although the archives treat the case as an internal mystery of the time, modern space studies indicate that these flashes are often caused by cosmic rays passing through the crew’s retinas, a biological and physical phenomenon that began to be understood precisely during the Apollo program. Still, the inclusion of these reports in the UFO archive package reinforces how comprehensive the government’s data collection was on any nonstandard event experienced by its officials.
The new open data policy promoted by the White House
The current phase of massive disclosure of confidential information kicked off in May, when the first batch of files was released to the public. To centralize this evidence, the government structured the official WAR.GOV/UFO portal, which acts as a definitive digital library for the so-called Unidentified Anomalous Phenomena. This digital platform was created to ensure that any citizen has direct access to the original documents, without intermediaries or institutional filters.
Secretary of Defense Pete Hegseth has come out firmly in favor of this breach of secrecy, arguing that excessive confidentiality has only fueled unsubstantiated rumors over the decades. In his statement, the head of the military ministry emphasized that American society has the inalienable right to analyze photographic and video evidence on its own. Donald Trump’s administration has used this agenda to criticize past administrations, accusing them of trying to ridicule popular interest in the topic.
It is essential to understand the terminology adopted by today’s intelligence agencies. The use of the acronym UAP serves to classify air, sea or space events that defy conventional technological explanations available at the time of observation. Authorities make it clear that the inability to identify an object does not prove the existence of extraterrestrial life, but rather a gap in scientific understanding or in the monitoring capacity of radars and sensors.
- Visual records of green spheres and flying saucers flying over the Sandia research complex, totaling more than two hundred post-war notifications.
- Observations of light anomalies and unexplained flashes reported by the Apollo 12 crew during rest periods in space.
- Video captures taken by thermal vision equipment attached to modern United States combat aircraft.
Civil engagement and analysis of recent thermographic captures
In addition to the textual documents, the Pentagon released audiovisual material captured by high-precision infrared sensors operated by different military divisions. One of the most recent videos, recorded in 2023 under the jurisdiction of US Northern Command, shows an aerial target moving in an unusual manner. Two other recordings, dated 2021 and 2022, took place in the Central Command’s area of activity, showing that the meetings take place in multiple global operation zones.
These multimedia files were initially submitted to closed intelligence networks before undergoing the rigorous review process that culminated in the current publication. The availability of these thermal images offers independent researchers a solid material basis to conduct parallel investigations, avoiding the exclusive dependence on reports based on human testimonies, which may suffer from variations in interpretation.
To expedite resolution of these pending cases, the War Department is making a direct appeal to the scientific community and private sector technology companies. The expectation is that the use of artificial intelligence and advanced data analysis by civil entities can decipher the hidden patterns in these phenomena. The government promised to maintain a continuous flow of publications, updating the population whenever an old case is finally solved or when new anomalies are registered by the defense forces.
