BAP criticizes Uruguay for accelerating Arrascaeta’s return and ignoring injury protocol
The president of Flamengo, Bap, expressed strong dissatisfaction with the Uruguayan team’s management of player Arrascaeta’s injury. In a statement on “Charla Podcast” this Sunday (14), the red-and-black director criticized coach Marcelo Bielsa for allegedly ignoring the club’s medical protocol and accelerating the midfielder’s return to training.
Bap detailed that there was prior contact with the team’s medical department, describing a “great relationship”. According to him, the club presented the athlete’s clinical situation and the plan drawn up for his recovery, aiming for his return for the second semester, a crucial period for Flamengo.
The president revealed that Uruguay’s medical team had agreed to the recovery program, ensuring that the player would not return to the field for 15 days. However, the agreement was not respected, and the coach’s decision to bring forward the athlete’s return culminated in a new injury for Arrascaeta, generating frustration in the Rio club.
Uruguay coach, Marcelo Bielsa, comments on Arrascaeta’s recovery and injury
On another occasion, the coach of the Uruguayan national team, Marcelo Bielsa, had spoken publicly about Arrascaeta’s condition. The calf injury, which caused the friction, happened while the player was with the national delegation, already recovering from a previous collarbone problem.
In his defense, Bielsa stated that the case was handled by a professional who has been with him for years and who also works for Flamengo. He highlighted that there was alignment and dialogue between the team, the club and the athlete himself. Although Bielsa’s statement corroborates part of what Bap said about the initial agreement, the Flamengo president maintains that the established plan was not properly implemented.

Interestingly, Flamengo’s physiotherapist, Laniyan Neves, is currently working with the Uruguayan delegation at the World Cup. The presence of the professional was requested by Arrascaeta himself, who maintains a long working relationship with Neves at the Ninho do Urubu training center.
Arrascaeta’s return projection and the World Cup schedule
The Uruguayan National Team’s debut in the World Cup is scheduled for this Monday (15th), at 7pm (Brasília time), against Saudi Arabia, in Group H. Arrascaeta will not be available for this first clash. The expectation is that the midfielder will only return to the pitch in the last round of the group stage, in the duel against Spain.
