Emotional, mother of young man who died after jumping from an irregular bridge in the interior of SP makes a statement
Valdenia Rodrigues, mother of Maria Eduarda Rodrigues de Freitas, 21, published a touching tribute to her daughter on her social networks. Maria Eduarda died last Saturday (13), after being thrown from a bridge in Limeira, in the interior of São Paulo, without the appropriate safety equipment to practice rope jumping.
The message, published on Instagram, expressed the mother’s deep pain: “My beloved daughter, just today I wanted to hug you more than a thousand times. How painful your departure is.”
Continuing with her words, Valdenia added: “I love you forever, my princess. And thank you so much for being part of my life during these 21 years. What an honor it was to hear you call me mother. God, thank you for this privilege.”
Worrying history at Ponte do Esqueleto and the informal operation of those involved
Young Maria Eduarda suffered multiple traumas when she impacted the ground. Despite dying at the scene of the incident, a nurse who witnessed the fall provided first aid, noting that the victim still had vital signs at that time.
Maria Eduarda should have been secured by two safety ropes, however, as it turned out, none of them were attached to her body. Videos of the moment of the jump reveal the instructors lifting the young woman and throwing her from a height of 40 meters without any protective equipment.
Delegate Andrea Dantas Levy, responsible for investigating the case, clarified that the organizers of the jump operated completely informally, without having a formally constituted company. Although the sport had been practiced for around five years, last Saturday’s tragic accident exposed the serious lack of preparation for a sport that inherently presents high risk, highlighting the dangers of unregulated operations.
