Digital influencer Virginia Fonseca used her social networks last Tuesday (16) to share a challenging experience during a tour of the National September 11 Memorial and Museum, in New York. The businesswoman informed her followers that she felt unwell during the visit, choosing to leave the place before completing the itinerary.
The influencer’s trip to the United States is for professional reasons, acting as a correspondent for the program “Domingão com Huck” to cover the preparations for the 2026 World Cup.
Through videos published on her Instagram Stories, Virginia described the sensations that struck her as she walked through the space designed to honor the memory of the victims of the terrorist attacks on the Twin Towers, which occurred on September 11, 2001.
“Look, I need to comment on the museum we visited. For those who appreciate history, it’s an unmissable place, for sure. But the energy is dense, it’s a sad environment, you know?”, shared the mother of Maria Alice, Maria Flor and José Leonardo, in her narrative.
The WePink brand owner explained that she noticed a change in her emotional and physical state throughout the visit, being deeply affected by the atmosphere of the place. “I, at least, was extremely down. I looked exhausted, dragging myself along… Lucas Guedez even asked: ‘What’s happening?’. The energy is very heavy, I felt bad”, he detailed. It is common for memorial sites dedicated to major tragedies, such as 9/11, to evoke intense emotional reactions in visitors, given the historical burden and representations of the events.
Faced with great discomfort, Virginia decided not to continue with the full tour. “I couldn’t see everything. It really wasn’t enough for me, I felt like leaving. There are photos of people with injuries, with blood, it’s a difficult scenario to bear”, he reported.
Despite the remarkable experience, the internet personality made a point of reiterating his recommendation for anyone interested in the history of the attacks to visit the site. “For those looking for historical knowledge, it is worth knowing, but, I emphasize, it is impactful”, he concluded.
Located in the former World Trade Center complex, known as Ground Zero, in Manhattan, the National September 11 Memorial and Museum was opened in 2014. The space’s primary objective is to keep alive the memory of the almost three thousand victims of the terrorist attacks that devastated the United States in 2001.
The attacks that day resulted in a death toll of close to three thousand, after hijacked aircraft hit the Twin Towers, the Pentagon and an area in Pennsylvania. The museum brings together a vast collection of photographs, videos, testimonies and artifacts relating to the tragic episode, consolidating itself as one of the main tourist attractions in New York.
