Early iOS 27 Features Arrive in Beta with Expanded Landscape Mode and Siri Alerts
The first beta versions of iOS 27 and Apple’s other operating systems continue to reveal new features, even after extensive details have been released. Developers and enthusiasts find new information that improves the user experience on the brand’s various devices.
There are still a number of discoveries emerging in the test versions of iOS 27, iPadOS 27, macOS Golden Gate 27, watchOS 27, and visionOS 27. These preliminary updates indicate the directions the tech giant is taking for its ecosystems.
Expanding Landscape Mode in iPhone Apps
One of the most notable changes in iOS 27 is the expansion of landscape mode support to a wide range of native iPhone apps. Services such as Apple Music, Podcasts, Fitness, Health, Reminders, Home, Shortcuts, Find My and Weather will now adapt better to this orientation.
Many of these interfaces will display a sidebar positioned on the left when the device is horizontal. This visual organization improves navigation and accessibility, especially for those who prefer to use their device lying down or with supports.
Although landscape mode was already present in some applications in iOS 26 and previous versions, the decision to extend it to a greater number of software in iOS 27 may indicate Apple’s preparation for future hardware launches, such as the speculated “iPhone Ultra”, which could have an even greater focus on productivity and media consumption on a horizontal screen.
Siri suggests pausing long conversations
Discoveries in iOS 27 codes reveal that Apple is developing a feature where Siri can issue reminders for users to take breaks during long interactions. The goal is to promote digital well-being and avoid excessive dependence on virtual assistants.
Details of the code mention alerts such as “Message to Take a Break” and a clarification that Siri is “not a real person.” This initiative demonstrates the company’s concern with humanizing interaction without masking the nature of artificial intelligence.
A specific quote found in the files reads: “You’ve been in this conversation for [n] hours — consider taking a break. Siri is not a person, but she will be here when you are ready to continue.” The message reinforces the idea that technology should serve the user, and not the other way around.
There is still no clarity on the exact criteria for triggering this reminder, but the mention of “hours” suggests that talk time will be a deciding factor. Apple is likely to combine the duration of the dialogue with other usage indicators to determine the ideal time to display the warning, encouraging a healthier relationship with the virtual assistant.
Other system innovations
Among other updates, the new Apple Intelligence tool, which allows you to extend image content, can be accessed directly through the Crop function within the Photos application. This integration simplifies the process for users.
The functionality allows, for example, when rotating a photo to align the horizon, the gaps at the edges are automatically filled, creating a complete and harmonious image. A demonstration video about this application in practice was shared.
Additionally, the reorganization of the Home Screen in iOS 27 has become more fluid. The system now allows a brief delay before realigning icons, making it easier to move apps to new locations without the screen reacting instantly.
Improvements to iPadOS 27 functions
In iPadOS 27, the Shortcuts app’s automation features receive a significant upgrade when combined with Magic Keyboard. Now, when connecting the tablet to the accessory, it is possible to configure automatic actions, such as opening Safari and YouTube simultaneously, side by side, as demonstrated in the video.
The accessory experience on iPad is also improved. iPadOS 27 will now play a specific sound when the Apple Pencil is magnetically attached to the tablet, providing audible confirmation that the accessory has been connected correctly.

macOS Golden Gate 27 Features
For Mac users, macOS Golden Gate 27 brings a simple but potentially very useful addition: folder name suggestions. The system will use the content stored within the directory to suggest a relevant title, optimizing file organization.
Another new feature that brings back a capability from the old Mac OS Classic is the ability to paste items from the clipboard directly into any Finder folder. This functionality, discontinued for a while, returns to offer more agility in file management.
Changes in watchOS 27
watchOS 27 introduces an important change to the VO₂ max data collection policy, which measures the maximum oxygen capacity that the body absorbs during exercise. Previously restricted to users aged 20 and over, collection will now be extended to individuals aged 18 and over.
This change allows a larger group of young adults to track and monitor an important indicator of their cardiovascular health and fitness through Apple Watch.
What’s new in visionOS 27
Among the various additions to visionOS 27, the UploadVR website highlighted the implementation of the Vehicle Motion Cues feature. Originally introduced in iOS/iPadOS 18 and expanded to macOS Tahoe 26, this feature aims to mitigate motion sickness.
On other devices, the feature displays animated dots on the edges of the screen that respond to the vehicle’s acceleration, braking and turns, helping to stabilize the user’s visual perception. The inclusion of this tool in visionOS is particularly relevant given the immersive nature of virtual reality, where motion sickness is a persistent challenge.
However, it is still unclear how exactly Vehicle Motion Cues will be applied in visionOS or whether it will effectively reduce discomfort in virtual reality experiences.
It is likely that new information about these and other features will be released with the launch of the second beta versions, which could be made available as early as next week.
