Brazilian team focuses on leading its group in the World Cup to ensure better logistics and rest conditions
The Brazilian team considers it essential to guarantee the first position in their group in the knockout phase of the World Cup. This strategy does not aim to choose easier opponents in the following stages.
By conquering the leadership of their group, the green and yellow team ensures simpler travel planning for the knockout stages, the stay at their base in New Jersey, as well as an extended period for training sessions and physical recovery of the players before the round of 16 and quarter-final clashes.
If it remains in the lead, ahead of Morocco based on tiebreaker criteria such as goal difference, the team will maintain its training at the Columbia Park Training Center until the end of the tournament.
The New York Red Bulls’ newly opened, modern complex has served as the Brazilian team’s headquarters since its arrival in the United States three weeks ago. Maintaining this fixed location is crucial, as it allows the consolidation of routines, uninterrupted access to specific equipment already configured and the psychological comfort of a familiar environment, which are decisive factors for the performance of high-performance athletes. Furthermore, the delegation will remain in the same hotel, which has undergone several modifications promoted by the Brazilian Football Confederation (CBF) to optimize service for players and the coaching staff.
However, if they qualify in second place, the team would need to move away from their current base, with trips that would include a trip to Mexico. Given this, the CBF considers it disadvantageous to return to New Jersey after each match. Thus, Brazil would adopt a regime of constant travel, carrying out training and accommodation in the cities where the games were played.
The great final clash of the World Cup is scheduled for July 19, in the stadium that covers the regions of New York and New Jersey.
Routes and cities of the Brazilian team in case of group leadership
- Second phase: June 29, in Houston
- Round of 16: July 5, in New Jersey
- Quarterfinals: July 11, in Miami
- Semifinal: July 15, in Atlanta
Possible routes for the team if they qualify in second place
- Second phase: June 29, in Monterrey
- Round of 16: July 4th, in Houston
- Quarterfinals: July 9, in Boston
- Semifinal: July 14, in Dallas
If the team reaches the final, the total period for rest and preparation will be the same in both situations: 20 days. However, the way these days are distributed is what differs. With first place, there will be a longer break before the round of 16 and quarter-finals (six days), and a reduced time before the semi-finals and final (four days). If Brazil advances as second place, there will always be five days between each stage of the tournament.
“Our focus is to advance first, and we are committed to that,” said midfielder Lucas Paquetá. He highlighted that “this provides advantageous logistics in relation to travel, rest time and recovery. It is a goal that we pursue.”
A possible classification in third place in the group does not allow a clear prediction of the path to be followed, as it would directly depend on the results of other brackets.
In order to prepare for the different possibilities, the CBF sent, months before, a delegation to all the cities where the Seleção could play. This team was made up of logistics, physiology professionals and even a chef. The purpose was to inspect the potential installations and the particularities of each location, preventing any unforeseen events.
“We pursue the objective set since our first game, due to the numerous advantages we expect to have in the next phase, not in terms of opponents, but in terms of logistical organization”, declared Rodrigo Caetano, director of Brazil’s men’s teams.
The manager added: “We have plans B and C. From the beginning, we made it clear that our intention is to see plan A come to fruition, but this will depend on the final round. Firstly, we need to qualify well, play another good match, win the victory and wait for the result of our opponent.”
Brazil and Morocco have four points, being tied. Scotland, in turn, has three points, while Haiti has not yet scored and is already out of contention. In this way, the final position of group C can be determined by tiebreaker criteria, such as direct confrontation, goal difference, number of goals scored and cards.
The Brazilian team will face Scotland next Wednesday, at 7pm (Brasília time), in the city of Miami. At the same time, Morocco and Haiti will meet in Atlanta.
