Driver arrested in California with 8 empty beer cans during intensified road operation
A recent arrest occurred in San Bernardino County, California, where a driver suspected of being drunk at the wheel was intercepted with an open beer can and eight empty containers. The incident was publicized by the California Highway Patrol (CHP) Victorville office on social media.
The action was part of a “maximum inspection period” implemented throughout the state, an intensified strategy to combat drivers under the influence of alcohol or drugs and, thus, increase road safety. This more rigorous phase of patrolling took place between June 20th and 21st, aiming to prevent serious accidents on busy roads.
The CHP office in Victorville highlighted the commitment of its officers during the intensification campaign. The main goal was to ensure the protection of roads, monitoring drunk driving offenses and educating the population about the risks. The corporation emphasized that driving under the influence of substances compromises everyone’s safety and can be avoided, suggesting the designation of an alternative driver or the use of transport services.
In addition to the items already consumed, CHP officers also located 12 other cans of beer still sealed in the driver’s vehicle. After checking, the team confirmed the driver’s state of intoxication, arresting him on charges of driving under the influence of alcohol.
CHP Commissioner Sean Duryee highlighted that the increased flow of vehicles during the summer in California significantly increases the dangers of incidents involving drunk or drugged drivers. He reinforced that these occurrences result in the loss of hundreds of lives annually and irreversibly impact many families. Duryee called for these fatalities, which are completely preventable, to be combated with advance planning and the refusal to drive under the influence, aiming for the safety of Californian highways.
