Thousands in New Jersey without power: Severe thunderstorm warning predicts flooding, high winds and possible tornadoes
New Jersey residents face a day of intense weather conditions. A severe thunderstorm warning was issued for thirteen counties Monday afternoon. Torrential rain, devastating wind gusts and the threat of flash flooding are expected, and thousands are already without power.
The weather warning is valid until 9pm today. This precautionary measure directly affects Atlantic, Burlington, Camden, Cape May, Cumberland, Gloucester, Hunterdon, Mercer, Middlesex, Monmouth, Ocean, Salem and Somerset counties.
Experts from the National Weather Service detailed the imminent dangers. There is a forecast of strong and locally destructive winds, hail and very intense precipitation. Furthermore, the formation of tornadoes for a brief period cannot be ruled out.
Specifically for some areas of Burlington County, a more focused storm warning has been issued. It remained active until 3pm.
At the same time, fifteen counties are under a flood warning. This crucial warning remains in effect until 6am on Tuesday.
Multiple waves of storms are forecast to cross New Jersey between 3 p.m. and 11 p.m. There is concern that the World Cup game, scheduled for 8pm at MetLife Stadium, will be severely impacted by adverse weather conditions, turning the event into a chaotic scenario.

During times of greater rainfall intensity, the volume of precipitation may vary. It is estimated between one and two inches per hour.
The meteorological service explained that the path of a low pressure system in the region is responsible for the current conditions. This phenomenon creates an environment conducive to isolated severe storms in the late afternoon and evening. While high winds are the main threat, the possibility of tornadoes remains.
The strength of the storms is expected to gradually decrease. They should dissipate completely overnight, driven by the advance of a cold front towards the coast.
For Tuesday, there is a new forecast of instability. A second cold front could bring isolated showers and thunderstorms in the afternoon, especially near and southeast of I-95.
Monitoring weather conditions in real time
