Apple releases iOS 27 Beta 2 with new features in Siri customization, financial management and HomeKit integration
Apple has made the second beta version of iOS 27 available to developers, introducing a series of improvements and new features that aim to refine the user experience before the public launch. This update, which precedes the beta version for common users scheduled for July and the official launch in September, focuses on optimizations ranging from interaction with the virtual assistant Siri to finance management and home automation.
Major improvements arrive with the new beta version of iOS 27
One of the highlights of the update is the improvement of the “Write with Siri” tool, which now has a dedicated button above the keyboard in applications such as Notes, Mail and Messages. This change significantly facilitates access to the dictation function, which in the first beta version of iOS 27 could only be activated after selecting text, making interaction more fluid and intuitive for the user in various everyday situations.
Another interesting new feature for Siri is in the voice customization area, available on the iPhone 17 Pro and iPhone Air models. The “Rhythm” and “Expressiveness” options for the assistant’s voice are now marked as “Coming Soon”, indicating that Apple is preparing to offer users more control over how Siri sounds. Although these options were not functional in the first beta, the signs point to a future experience more adapted to each user’s individual preferences.

New communication and financial management features on iPhone
The Wallet app received a new feature called “Insights”, accessible via a three-dot icon in the top right corner. While not fully implemented yet, a splash screen for the feature reveals that users will be able to connect their bank accounts to Wallet to view detailed information about spending, recurring transactions, and balances. This move positions Wallet as a more robust hub for personal financial management, offering a consolidated and up-to-date view of finances directly on iPhone.
On the communications front, Apple has added support for responding to specific messages in RCS (Rich Communication Services) conversations with Android users. This functionality allows the user to tap and hold a message to access the reply option, replicating the behavior already existing in iMessages. Additionally, iOS 27 now displays tapbacks on images and videos appropriately in RCS conversations, overcoming the limitation of iOS 26 which only used text descriptors like “[x loved an image]”, providing a richer, more visually consistent messaging experience across platforms.
The creation of digital passes in the Carteira app also gained new options, with the introduction of varied textures when choosing a color. This detail offers more flexibility in customizing cards, tickets and other passes stored digitally on the device.
Integration and automation in the Apple ecosystem: advances in HomeKit and Apple TV
The second beta of iOS 27 brought significant improvements to the integration of devices into the Apple ecosystem, especially for those using home automation. The Home app has been updated to allow you to remotely update your Apple TV. Your device now appears in the “Updates” section of the Home app’s Settings interface, and tapping the corresponding button installs the latest software without needing to turn on your Apple TV. This convenience simplifies device maintenance, making connected home management even more practical.
For cameras compatible with HomeKit Secure Video, the new version offers the ability to long press the notification of a motion alert to view the corresponding video and turn on lights near the camera. This feature raises the level of security and control, allowing a quick and contextualized response to events detected by surveillance cameras.
Users who have experienced issues with HomeKit accessories like Philips Hue bulbs becoming unresponsive after installing iOS 27 and tvOS 27 will find a fix in this beta 2. The update restores functionality and stability to these devices, ensuring the smart home ecosystem operates without interruption.
Enhancements to privacy, backup, and system usability
Privacy and data security remain a core focus at Apple. The iOS 27 code suggests that the company will start sending notifications in case of iCloud backup failures. Messages such as “There is a problem with our server, so you may not be able to back up or restore your device now. Please try again later” will alert users to outages, helping to prevent the loss of important data.
In the Siri section of the Settings app, a new “Visual Intelligence” option has been added. The “Highlight to Search Image” feature is turned off by default, and Apple clarifies that when you turn it on, images will automatically be sent to third parties when subjects are highlighted to find similar images. This gives the user explicit control over sharing their visual information.
Another notable change is the discontinuation of the AirPort Utility app. Apple reported that the app will no longer be available for download on iOS 27. Although users who already have it can reinstall it, AirPort Utility functionality is not guaranteed on the new system, marking the end of support for the AirPort line of routers.
In camera usability, the app now displays yellow highlights around the tools button when a hidden feature such as exposure adjustment is enabled. This visual indicator enhances the experience by clearly signaling when advanced settings are in use.
The Weather app has undergone a subtle update to its design. Some of the light blue text, such as precipitation levels, condition description, and wind speed reading, has been adjusted to be clearer and brighter, making weather information easier to read.
Finally, the Siri application received a new option that allows multiple conversations to be selected for deletion, optimizing the management of the history of interactions with the assistant. Additionally, artificial intelligence tools in the Photos app can now be applied to RAW images, offering more editing and optimization power for professional and amateur photographers using this high-quality format.
Schedule and expectations for the official launch of iOS 27
iOS 27 is currently available to developers, but Apple plans to release a public beta in July, allowing a broader group of users to test the new features and provide feedback. The official launch of iOS 27 for the general public is scheduled for September, the period in which the company traditionally presents its new iPhone models. The beta phase is crucial for identifying and fixing potential flaws, ensuring that the final version of the operating system delivers a stable, feature-rich experience to millions of users around the world.
