CBF determination changes Brazil goalkeeper uniform color for decisive game against Scotland
A significant change to the Brazilian team’s outfits was reported by FIFA, impacting the next match against Scotland, scheduled for this Wednesday at 7pm (Brasília time). For the decisive clash in the group stage of the World Cup, goalkeepers Alisson, Ederson and Weverton, who would initially wear the red kit, will now enter the field wearing a green set.
This modification, according to information obtained, was requested directly by Samir Xaud, current president of the Brazilian Football Confederation (CBF). Given the availability of an alternative uniform and the absence of any chromatic overlap with the Scottish team, world football’s highest governing body granted permission for the substitution.
This is not the first time that President Xaud has intervened in the choice of colors. In the previous year, 2025, he had already refused to use red in the Brazilian team’s alternative uniform, developed in collaboration with the Jordan brand.
When commenting on the decision last year, the leader himself clarified the situation: “It was a sensitive topic. Many interpreted the measure with a political bias, but my motivation was strictly linked to Brazil and the colors of our flag”, declared Xaud. He reinforced that blue, yellow, green and white are the country’s official tones, and the opposition to red had “no relation to politics”, even with production already underway, which led to an emergency meeting with Nike to interrupt the process.
The definition of uniforms for World Cup matches follows a FIFA protocol, which uses forms with clothing options sent in advance by the federations. However, there is the prerogative of adjustments and modifications during the coordination meetings that precede each game.
When asked about the topic, the companies Nike and FIFA preferred not to comment. In turn, the Brazilian Football Confederation limited itself to declaring that the red goalkeeper uniform is not part of the official collection.
It is worth remembering that the use of the color red for Brazilian goalkeepers’ uniforms has already occurred in previous editions, with records of use in years such as 2013 and 2014, among other occasions.
For the clash against the Scottish team, the Brazilian team’s field athletes will follow tradition, wearing a yellow shirt, accompanied by white shorts and socks.
