IOS 27 Beta 2 update significantly improves Siri AI and optimizes Messages RCS interactions

The most notable improvements, as pointed out by the website 9to5Mac, focus on Siri AI. Users will notice a more agile and responsive virtual assistant. Additionally, the keyboard’s “Writing Tools” function has been replaced with the new “Write with Siri” button, simplifying access to the AI’s writing capabilities.
Within Siri AI’s “Expressive Voice Preview” functionality, the system now displays the “Pace” and “Expressivity” adjustments with an indication of “imminent release”. However, the exact date for these new features to become available to the public has not yet been released by the company.
Siri AI represents the new generation of Apple’s virtual assistant, powered by advanced artificial intelligence. Its interactions are similar to those of other large chatbots, such as ChatGPT, Gemini or Claude, but they are processed by the large language models developed by Apple, ensuring deeper integration with the brand’s ecosystem and a focus on privacy.

- RCS messages now allow direct replies to specific messages, known as “in-line replies”. This feature increases the clarity of conversations, making it clear which message a response refers to;
- Better support for message reactions has been implemented. Instead of appearing as separate text (e.g. “So-and-so loved this message”), the reaction emoji is attached directly to the corresponding message.
These changes are part of the RCS 2.7 release, suggesting that other features are on the way. This same version already incorporates support for editing and canceling sending messages, indicating that such features may also be in the development phase for future updates.
Incorporating these improvements is vital to ensuring a fluid and consistent communication experience between Android and iOS devices. Historically, iPhone and Android users have faced a significant gap in messaging functionality when communicating, with Apple’s iMessage offering features that were not available when chatting between different systems. With these updates, iOS seeks to standardize and enrich messaging for everyone, reducing friction and increasing interoperability, aligning with a global industry effort for more open communication standards.
Additional minor refinements and adjustments are implemented into the system
iOS Beta 2 also brings a series of smaller but relevant improvements to the system, including:
- Apple Wallet’s “Insights” functionality has been extended to cover more geographic regions;
- Screen mirroring between iOS 27 and macOS 27 Golden Gate demonstrates greater stability, resolving crash issues reported in Beta 1;
- It is now possible to update the AirPods Max 2 firmware directly through iOS 27 Beta 2;
- Remote updating for the Apple TV 4K is available, following the same pattern as the HomePod.
Update availability occurs on a staggered and scheduled basis
iOS 27 Beta 2 is currently only being released to developers who are part of the Apple Beta Software Program. The expectation is that public access to this testing program will be available from July this year.
This new update for iPhone is released simultaneously with other important packages, such as iPadOS 27 and macOS 27, ensuring synchronization between Apple’s different ecosystems.
