Intense cold warning hits Cuiabá with forecasts of minimums at 14°C and Civil Defense issues guidance
A cold front advances through the Central-West region of Brazil, causing a considerable drop in temperatures in Cuiabá. The municipality’s Civil Defense has intensified its recommendations to residents and is monitoring local weather conditions. According to projections by the Weather Forecasting and Climate Studies Center (CPTEC/INPE), temperatures could reach 14°C between yesterday, Tuesday (23), and next Saturday (27), marking the coldest days recorded in the city so far this year.
According to the meteorological report, the temperature yesterday, Tuesday (23), fluctuated between 19°C and 26°C, with partially cloudy skies. The most notable climate change begins today, Wednesday (24), with a forecast of a minimum of 14°C and a maximum of 20°C, and a chance of localized rain. On Thursday (25), the minimum temperature will remain at 14°C, and the expected maximum should not exceed 22°C.
For next Friday (26), the weather will continue with predominantly cloudy skies and thermometers reading between 16°C and 26°C. However, on Saturday (27), a progressive increase in temperatures is expected, with a minimum of 18°C and a maximum of 30°C, interspersing moments of sun between the clouds.
Alessandro Borges, municipal secretary of Civil Defense, highlighted that the department constantly monitors weather reports. He also emphasized the importance of adopting preventive measures to face low temperature days.
“Although Cuiabá is usually hot, the arrival of this cold air current demands caution, especially with children, the elderly and individuals in vulnerable conditions”, declared the secretary. He advised the population to follow the information released by official bodies and to implement fundamental precautions to ensure the health and integrity of everyone.

Civil Defense guidelines include checking roofs, gutters and drains to prevent leaks, organizing warm clothes and blankets in advance, and taking extra care with those most vulnerable to climate change. During the period of low temperature, it is also recommended to keep the body warm, drink adequate fluids and not use open fires, braziers or artisanal heaters indoors, due to the risk of poisoning or fire.
After the cold front moves away, days with lower humidity and sunnier conditions are expected to arrive. In view of this, Civil Defense recommends intensifying hydration, avoiding long periods of exposure to smoke and dust, and refraining from burning, a practice characterized as an environmental crime.
The recent statement highlights the series of climate variations observed this month. On June 10, Cuiabá was one of the municipalities in Mato Grosso under a yellow alert from the National Institute of Meteorology (Inmet) for storms, with heavy rains, intense winds and the potential for hail expected. Currently, the most relevant phenomenon is the arrival of this mass of freezing air, which promises one of the most pronounced thermal drops of the year in the capital.
Municipal Civil Defense continues to observe the development of weather conditions. In emergency situations, the population is advised to call the Fire Department by dialing 193, or the Civil Defense itself by dialing 199.
