Presenter Savannah Guthrie makes an emotional appeal and reveals details in note about the death of her mother, Nancy Guthrie
In a moment of deep emotion, presenter Savannah Guthrie had to hold back tears during the “Today” program on June 23. She spoke out about recent developments regarding the disappearance of her mother, Nancy Guthrie. The most recent information, released the day before, confirms Nancy’s death, as indicated in a second correspondence received by the family later this year.
The Guthrie family, made up of Savannah and her siblings, have received two messages since Nancy disappeared. The first note demanded a ransom of $6 million in bitcoins for Nancy’s release. The contents of the second note remained publicly unknown until now, but several media sources reported that the message indicated Nancy’s death shortly after her abduction, with her body reportedly buried in a remote area.
The impact of new information and personal appeal
Visibly shaken, Savannah Guthrie addressed her colleagues and the “Today” audience, expressing how much she values the program and her colleagues. She described the situation as “unusual and unprecedented” to be there, making no formal comment on the coverage, but unable to ignore her own pain. Taking advantage of the visibility, she made an urgent appeal for anyone with information to come forward. Guthrie stressed that although the news may be new to the audience, the anguish is a daily reality for her sister, her brother and the entire family, including her children, who live without peace. The difficulty of continuing with the routine, smiling and finding joy is immense, highlighting the profound impact of the disappearance on everyone’s lives.
A desperate cry from Savannah for information about Nancy
With his voice choked with emotion, Guthrie reiterated his need for help, stating that he would not miss the opportunity to plead with the public. She asked everyone watching to please do the right thing, no matter how small the information, remembering that there is a reward. The presenter assured that information could be given anonymously, if necessary. Concluding her outburst, she reinforced her love for her mother and the promise that the search will never cease.
Savannah Guthrie’s family is offering a $1 million reward for any information leading to her mother’s return. Nancy Guthrie was last seen on January 31 at her residence in Tucson, Arizona. Two days after her disappearance, Pima County Sheriff Chris Nanos informed the press of his belief that Nancy had been kidnapped.
The second message was delivered to the Guthrie family in February. Soon after, Savannah published a video on Instagram alongside her brothers, where she directly addressed the author of the note. On that occasion, she declared: “We received your message and we understand. We beg you now to give us back our mother so we can celebrate with her. This is the only way we can have peace. This is very important to us.”
