Report indicates high probability of iPhone Fold being launched in September, contradicting predictions of delay
Apple’s first foldable smartphone, the long-awaited iPhone Fold, appears to be progressing as planned. New information in the supply chain indicates a launch for the third quarter of this year, refuting the skepticism that surrounded the device’s readiness to hit the market soon.
A survey by the China Securities Journal, reported by the DigiTimes portal, revealed that the delivery of components for the device began in small shipments. Suppliers were informed that the launch of the iPhone Fold is scheduled for September, coinciding with the presentation of the iPhone 18 Pro and iPhone 18 Pro Max models. A second source linked to the production chain confirmed that it had not received any warning about possible postponements.
This recent investigation diverges from concerns previously expressed by several analysts and experts in the field. Bloomberg’s Mark Gurman had expressed doubts in March about the feasibility of a September launch. Similarly, Tim Long of Barclays projected that shipments would not begin until after December. In May, influencer Instant Digital had also reported persistent challenges related to the durability of the device’s hinge.

Apple has already demonstrated the ability to launch in stages on other occasions. The iPhone X, for example, was announced alongside the iPhone 8 series in 2017, but only hit stores in November of the same year. A similar strategy could be adopted again, even if the initial announcement takes place in September, allowing the company to manage demand for new technology and refine the user experience.
As anticipated by Mashable, the foldable device should have a 7.8-inch internal OLED screen and a 5.5-inch external OLED screen. Internally, the A20 processor, Touch ID instead of Face ID and a set of dual rear cameras are expected. Analysts estimate the launch price to be around US$2,399, placing it in the premium segment, similar to or even higher than competitors such as the Samsung Galaxy Z Fold.
