Arsenal secure permanent signing of Piero Hincapié for more than €50 million after speculation from Real Madrid
Arsenal confirmed the definitive acquisition of Ecuadorian defender Piero Hincapié, who until then belonged to Bayer Leverkusen. The 24-year-old defender spent last season on loan at the London club and, in recent days, his name was speculated at Real Madrid, which is in a restructuring phase under the command of José Mourinho.
Arsenal guarantees Hincapié stay after dispute with Real Madrid
Given the interest of other European giants, the English team exercised its priority in negotiations, guaranteeing the athlete’s permanence. Last season, Hincapié played 39 matches in various competitions, being a key player in the campaign that led Arsenal to the Premier League title.
Standout on the field and the value of hiring
Hincapié’s debut for the Gunners took place in September, and the player established himself as a starter in 20 English Championship games. Under the management of Mikel Arteta, the Arsenal team had a solid defense, conceding just 27 goals in the competition. The Ecuadorian was also among the starters in the UEFA Champions League final, in which the team faced Paris Saint-Germain.
ESPN’s investigation reveals that the permanent signing of the defender will cost the London club’s coffers more than 50 million euros.
Successful trajectory in European football
Before his arrival at Arsenal, Piero Hincapié played 166 games for Bayer Leverkusen, where he was a key player in the historic 2023-24 season. That year, the German club won its first Bundesliga title, ending the national competition undefeated, a remarkable feat that demonstrates the defender’s ability to contribute to winning campaigns at a high level.
Early career and national representation
Hincapié’s professional journey began at Independiente del Valle, in Ecuador. In 2020, the defender moved to Talleres, from Argentina, where he stayed for a season before moving to Leverkusen. For the Ecuadorian national team, Hincapié has already played 54 games and participated in four important international tournaments, including the 2026 World Cup.
Implementation of the agreement with the London club
Hincapié’s new contract with Arsenal will officially come into effect on July 1st.
