Detroit Lions cornerback Terrion Arnold faces kidnapping and armed robbery charges in Florida
Authorities in Tampa, Florida, arrested Detroit Lions cornerback Terrion Arnold on Wednesday night in connection with an alleged kidnapping and armed robbery incident that occurred in early February. The 23-year-old defensive back turned himself in at Orient Road Jail in Hillsborough County, facing four counts of kidnapping and four counts of armed robbery. Six other individuals were previously taken into custody for their alleged participation in what investigators describe as a coordinated attack targeting three teenage victims.
The Tampa Police Department announced the arrest late Wednesday evening, marking a significant development in a case that has been under investigation for nearly two months. An NFL spokesperson confirmed the league’s awareness of the situation and stated that officials have been in contact with the Lions organization. The team has not yet issued a public statement regarding the charges against their 2024 first-round draft pick.
Investigation reveals alleged revenge plot following theft at rental property
According to investigators, Arnold had rented an Airbnb property in Largo, Florida, where he regularly stayed with several co-defendants: Arianna Del Valle, 19; Jasmine Randazzo, 19; Lyndell Hudson II, 26; Christion Williams, 24; Boakai Hilton Jr., 23; and Freddie Hughes, 27. Police reports indicate that multiple personal items belonging to Arnold and others were stolen from the rental property on February 1. Authorities state that Arnold suspected two of the three eventual victims were responsible for the theft, though Tampa police later determined they had no involvement in the original incident.
On February 3, Arnold, Hilton, Hughes, and another individual filed a report with the Largo Police Department claiming more than $250,000 in stolen property. Investigators allege that later that same day, Arnold and Hilton coordinated with Del Valle and Randazzo to contact one of the suspected individuals and orchestrate a meeting at an apartment location in Tampa.
Three victims allegedly assaulted and held at gunpoint during coordinated attack
The three male victims, all in their late teens, arrived at the apartment on February 4 expecting to meet with the two women. According to police reports, Williams and Hudson were concealing themselves inside a bedroom closet at the location. When the victims entered, the two men allegedly emerged, grabbed the victims, held them at gunpoint, and began physically assaulting them. The victims sustained visible injuries from being battered and pistol-whipped during the ordeal.
Authorities recovered evidence showing that Del Valle streamed the incident live to Arnold, Hilton, and Hughes as they traveled to the apartment. Investigators also discovered a group chat involving all defendants in which Arnold and Hilton allegedly provided directions to Del Valle, Williams, and Hudson during the assault. Police state that Arnold, Hilton, Hughes, and another individual arrived at the apartment around 1:00 a.m., with Arnold allegedly directing the group’s actions inside the residence.
- Four counts of kidnapping filed against Arnold
- Four counts of armed robbery charged
- Six co-defendants previously arrested
- Victims held for approximately 40 minutes
- More than $250,000 in property initially reported stolen
Victims forced to leave scene after robbery of personal belongings
While the assault was ongoing, investigators allege that Hughes, Hudson, and Williams stole personal property belonging to the three victims. The victims were escorted from the apartment approximately 40 minutes after the ordeal began, forced into their vehicle, and ordered to leave the area. They subsequently reported the incident to Tampa police and identified the suspects involved in the attack.
Based on evidence gathered during the investigation, authorities believe Arnold served as the primary organizer of the alleged scheme. The coordinated nature of the incident, combined with electronic communications recovered by investigators, led police to identify Arnold’s role in planning and directing the events that unfolded on February 4.
Arnold’s professional career with Detroit Lions now in jeopardy
The Detroit Lions selected Arnold with the 24th overall pick in the 2024 NFL Draft following his standout career at the University of Alabama. During his rookie season, the cornerback appeared in 16 games, recording 60 combined tackles and 10 passes defended. His first career interception came in Week 9 against the Minnesota Vikings, though a shoulder injury limited him to only eight games before requiring season-ending surgery.
The charges against Arnold represent a serious legal challenge that could impact his professional football career. The NFL has acknowledged the matter but declined to provide further comment at this time. With the legal proceedings now underway, Arnold faces significant consequences both in the criminal justice system and potentially from the league, which maintains conduct policies for all players regardless of their draft status or position with their respective teams.
