Mauricio Pochettino’s style at the World Cup with the USA: how the coach’s fashion revolutionizes the image in sport
The unique look chosen by Mauricio Pochettino in the World Cup clashes, while leading the United States team, has been the center of attention. With the support of a renowned brand, the Argentine coach seeks to establish a personal brand that changes the traditional perception of the role of a coach in football.
The set consists of a simple white shirt, complemented by a blue overshirt, tailored pants and white sneakers. This strategic approach, adopted by the 54-year-old commander, aims to project a modern and accessible figure, aligned with the role of manager and team leader, distancing himself from excessive formalism and adapting to new trends in personal branding in high-performance sport.
In the two clashes already played by the North American team in this edition of the World Cup, triumphing over Paraguay and Australia, Pochettino kept the same outfit. The expectation is that this outfit will be used again next Thursday, in the clash against Turkey, which will take place in Los Angeles, valid for the third round of the qualifying phase.
The clothing displayed during the world tournament reflects a particular decision by Pochettino, known for avoiding the official uniforms of the clubs he managed throughout his professional career. The coach’s style, in fact, led to curious statements from former English striker Wayne Rooney.
“I really like what he wears, the way he presents himself,” Rooney said on a BBC program, where he works as a commentator. “It’s a shame I can’t have hair like his, but maybe I can find similar clothes somewhere. If anyone has Pochettino’s contact details, please send them to me, I need to know where he shops.”
The Argentine had already attracted attention in 2018, during a Premier League match while managing Tottenham, in England. In that match, in which his team beat Manchester United 3-0 at the Old Trafford stadium, Pochettino appeared in a navy blue suit that became the main topic after the game.
At a press conference at the time, he commented: “Maybe the suit is making a difference. Whether it’s a suit or a sweater, I feel good. I feel beautiful. Next Sunday, I’ll wear the suit again, but I’ll probably choose a shirt in a different shade.”
This piece of clothing has become, over time, a talisman and an element of superstition for the detail-oriented Mauricio Pochettino, who is now managing a national team for the first time in his career. Previously, he was in charge of clubs such as Espanyol, Southampton, Tottenham, Paris Saint-Germain and Chelsea.
