SEGA and iam8bit celebrate 35 years of Sonic with re-release of Mega Drive cartridges for almost US$100
SEGA and iam8bit announce the start of pre-sales for new and fully functional cartridges of the classics Sonic the Hedgehog and Sonic the Hedgehog 2. The items are developed for the Mega Drive console in the NTSC standard.
Both games are part of the exclusive Sonic 35th Anniversary Legacy Cartridge Collection, designed especially for aficionados and collectors. Each unit is sold individually for US$99.99, equivalent to approximately R$519.41, without considering possible import taxes. For collectors, this is a unique opportunity to own a functional piece of a legacy that has marked generations.
Fans can now secure their orders, with the first round of deliveries scheduled for the third quarter of 2026.
Cartridge design details and special editions
The look of the Sonic the Hedgehog cartridge features a translucent structure, called Blue Blur. The Sonic the Hedgehog 2 version has a distinct translucent finish, known as Two Tail Amber.
Both titles are delivered with a full-color instruction manual, featuring restored art, as well as a never-before-seen introductory text, clamshell packaging and other additional goodies.
iam8bit revealed that a small portion, that is, one in every eight cartridges produced, will be the coveted Chaos Emerald version. These exclusive units stand out with a translucent exterior that simulates an internal glow, increasing their collector value for the most dedicated.

Production of items and consumer purchase restrictions
The manufacturing of these cartridges is the responsibility of Retrotainment Games. There is a purchase limit of up to two units per customer, and confirmation of each purchase will include an email with expected delivery.
Expected shipping dates for products
The cartridge distribution schedule was divided into three stages. The first shipment is scheduled for the third quarter of 2026, the second for the fourth quarter of the same year, and the remaining orders will be shipped in the first quarter of 2027.
