The new Toyota Corolla Cross will have a 1.5L engine, a miniature RAV4 look and a launch price maintained at 2 million yen
The next-generation Toyota Corolla Cross promises to redefine the SUV segment with an all-new 1.5L engine and the inclusion of a GR Sport version. Crucial details about the final look of Toyota’s compact SUV, positioned as one of the brand’s flagships, recently came to light. Since its launch in 2020, the Corolla Cross has established a strong presence in the market, sitting between the C-HR and the RAV4, but the future model will undergo a complete renovation and will have a notable increase in its dimensions. The latest information provides a comprehensive look at what to expect from the new Corolla Cross.
Exterior design of the next Corolla Cross evokes the presence of a “miniature RAV4”
One of the most striking features of the new model is its increased size, in line with the growing demand for more robust SUVs. Previously, the vehicle was distinguished from the RAV4 by its more compact proposal, but the next iteration will have enlarged dimensions, giving it a visual proximity to the RAV4. The look, described as a “miniature RAV4”, reinforces the perception of a larger and more sophisticated car. The exterior styling is expected to incorporate elements of the visual language of the “Toyota Corolla Concept”, which the brand plans to reveal at the end of 2025.
At the front, there are headlights inspired by the conceptual model and a grille with a contemporary mesh design, complemented by a robust lower bar that accentuates the SUV’s grandeur. Looking at the side, you can see two contour lines that extend from the C column. The rear promises a refined style, with tapered LED taillights and a flat trunk lid. The two-tone paint option, combining black roof and columns with a plastic finish, should continue to be available.
Significant interior improvements and a more futuristic cockpit
The new body dimensions will result in improved comfort for all occupants. Legroom for rear passengers and trunk capacity, points often criticized in the current version, will be substantially expanded, optimizing practicality. The interior will undergo a complete overhaul. There will be a central console with a floating design and the controls will be distributed on the sides of the digital instrument panel. Additionally, an exclusive screen for the passenger infotainment system will be integrated, ensuring a more modern and technological environment.

New 1.5L engine and other powertrain options
In the mechanical area, important innovations are expected. The vehicle’s structure is expected to employ an improved version of the current TNGA platform, the same one that serves as the basis for the Corolla sedan and hatchback. The propulsion system will undergo a redesign, replacing the 1.8-liter inline four-cylinder engine with a new 1.5-liter four-cylinder engine. The expectation is that this new engine will not only deliver greater power and improve fuel burning efficiency, but will also comply with the demanding Euro 7 emissions standards.
Hybrid versions are also planned, combining the newly developed combustion engine with an electric drive, as well as a plug-in hybrid model (PHEV) that will offer a very competitive electric range. Finally, Toyota is also expected to launch a “GR Sport” variant, which will include an aesthetic package and exclusive aerodynamic components, accompanied by a chassis tuning more focused on sports performance.
Global launch and initial price projection at 2 million yen
The next Corolla Cross will be a global vehicle, with its global launch scheduled for 2028, following the sedan’s debut, expected in 2027. Despite a likely increase of 100,000 yen or more in all configurations, due to the new features and larger size, the starting value is still projected to be around 2 million yen. By becoming a “miniature RAV4” and maintaining an attractive cost-benefit ratio, the new generation Corolla Cross is positioned to make a significant impact on the SUV market.
The tradition of the “plus alpha” philosophy, present in the different generations of the Corolla, reaches a new level of sophistication in the upcoming model. With a striking appearance and technologies that rival the RAV4, Toyota’s strategic approach to combining efficiency, through the new 1.5L engine, with a starting price of around 2 million yen, reflects the essence of the brand. Going beyond the usual segmentations between vehicle categories, the Corolla Cross establishes itself as a “functional and financially accessible car”, which simultaneously responds to the “genuine desire to have a car” of high quality. It is this ability to unite seemingly opposing characteristics in its concept that projects the next Corolla Cross as a future model of global prominence.
