Vasco advances in negotiations to hire Franclim Carvalho, current Botafogo coach
Vasco da Gama defined Franclim Carvalho, coach of Botafogo, as the main candidate to take command of the team. The Rio club has ongoing conversations with the 39-year-old professional, seeking a positive outcome for the signing.
The nomination of Franclim’s name was made last week by Admar Lopes, Vasco’s football director, and also by Felipe, technical director. Lopes, in particular, has had a close relationship with the coach’s team since before his arrival at the club, which facilitated the initial process, while Felipe also gave his approval.
Franclim Carvalho served as Artur Jorge’s technical assistant during the coach’s victorious campaigns at Botafogo in 2024. Artur Jorge had already been Vasco’s main desire after the departure of Fernando Diniz, but negotiations were not completed. Franclim is now seen as a professional aligned with the same methodology, with game principles that fit with the ideas of the Vasco football department, in addition to having demonstrated good performance against the rival.
Vasco’s board of directors saw an opportunity for a change of scenery for Franclim due to the moment of financial uncertainty experienced by Botafogo. The rival club are in the process of having their SAF resold to Gabriel de Alba, and have been facing wage delays since the start of the year.

One of the great advantages that led to the choice of the young coach internally is the fact that he and his family already live in Rio de Janeiro. Other options for foreign technicians considered by Vasco work outside the country, which would require a minimum period of one week for bureaucratic procedures before they are able to work.
Initially, President Pedrinho, with the intention of speeding up the definition of the new coach for the return of activities, had approved Franclim’s appointment. The negotiations were progressing promisingly, however, they were temporarily halted when the director was removed from office by a court decision by 777 Carioca this Tuesday.
In a meeting with CEO Fred Luz at SAF, Admar Lopes spoke with Samantha Longo, who took over as the club’s interventionist after the court decision. Admar presented Longo with his interest in hiring Franclim, and the lawyer agreed with the decision, without observing financial impediments, as the salary offered to the coach would be considerably lower than that of the last Vasco commanders.
The coach’s agents have already authorized negotiations for a possible transfer. Vasco’s proposal presents financial advantages for Franclim, and the club, in addition to the good relationship between the parties, argues with the prospect of a greater investment with the eventual arrival of a new investor for SAF.
Franclim Carvalho has a meeting scheduled with Botafogo representatives for this Friday, where he will discuss his future. At Vasco, the expectation is that the negotiations will have a favorable outcome.
