Yago Dora secures place in the WSL Saquarema stage after overcoming Australian Ethan Ewing
Brazil secured its presence in the men’s final of the Saquarema championship, part of the World Surf League (WSL) world circuit. Surfer from Santa Catarina Yago Dora obtained an impressive victory over Australian Ethan Ewing last Friday, at Praia de Itaúna, thus guaranteeing his participation in the title dispute against Italian Leonardo Fioravanti. Fioravanti, in turn, eliminated Brazilian João Chianca in the other semifinal.
Performance of the current world champion in Itaúna
Confirming his excellent phase on the professional circuit, Yago Dora, the current world champion, demonstrated a solid and calculated performance against one of the most skilled competitors in the surfing elite. The athlete knew how to masterfully manage the battery, efficiently taking advantage of the Itaúna sea conditions and moving towards another important decision this season.
Victory with strong support from Brazilian fans
Yago’s achievement takes on special significance, especially after João Chianca’s elimination by Fioravanti earlier, who, despite not reaching the final, recorded his best historic result in the home stage. It was up to Yago Dora to keep the country’s hopes alive in the fight for the title, driven by the fervent fans who filled the beach.
Yago Dora’s new phase on the professional circuit
The campaign in Saquarema solidifies the competitive maturity that the Brazilian surfer has been displaying. After reaching the top of the world, Yago began to face a new level of challenges: competing as one of the big names, being a target and reference for his opponents. At Praia de Itaúna, he has responded to this pressure with remarkable consistency and excellence.
Trajectory and evolution of a surfing talent
Raised in a high-performance surfing environment, under the tutelage of his father, coach Leandro “Grilo” Dora, Yago developed a career marked by continuous progress. He has improved his reading of waves and his ability to make crucial decisions in high-profile clashes. Against Ewing, this combination of skills was once again evident, showing how complete the surfer has become.
