Instagram platform explores new options for users to adjust ‘Your Algorithm’ and control the feed
Instagram is preparing the arrival of improved features that will allow users greater ability to adjust the content displayed in their feeds. The news was announced by the head of the platform, Adam Mosseri, in a recent publication.
Mosseri’s demonstrations detailed how people will be able to access the “Your Algorithm” system in an unprecedented way, a tool already available that offers the possibility of indicating preference or disinterest in certain subjects. This mechanism was introduced by Instagram the previous year and has been expanded to other parts of the application.

The main objective, according to Mosseri, is to transform “Your Algorithm” from a simple adjustment option into a fundamental component of daily interaction in the application. He highlighted, however, that some of these modifications are still in the experimental phase, while others will be implemented soon, with the possibility that some will not be implemented.

Among the features exemplified in its ad, the highlights are the opening of the “Your Algorithm” menu when swiping down on the Instagram feed and a similar customization screen that can appear when swiping up on a Reel. Additionally, there will be specific buttons below each Reel, allowing the user to signal whether they want to view more or fewer videos of the same type.
The demand for more control over the content displayed reflects a common frustration among users, as indicated by the most engaged comments on Mosseri’s post. Many express the desire for the algorithm to prioritize posts from profiles they already follow, seeking an experience more connected to their direct network. This desire underlines the importance of new customization tools to meet community expectations.
