A 60-year-old man died in Goiânia last Monday (29), after suffering illness while watching the World Cup match between Brazil and Japan. The fan was in a bakery when he suddenly fell from his chair and suffered an impact on his head when he hit the floor.
Upon witnessing the incident, a witness immediately called the Mobile Emergency Care Service (Samu), reporting that the individual, whose identity was not revealed, was purple in color and was not breathing. The rescue medical team identified the condition as a cardiorespiratory arrest and, recognizing the urgency, provided instructions over the telephone for cardiac massage to begin on site, before the ambulance arrived.
Samu professional used video call to guide emergency rescue
The recording of the service, made by the Samu team itself, shows doctor Nágylla de La Rocha instructing the witness via video call. In the images, she demonstrates the correct movements and the intensity necessary for compressions, emphasizing the importance of speed: “Faster. Faster. Faster. Follow this rhythm. This is the chance he has, okay? The vehicle is already on the way”, said the professional.
The resuscitation maneuvers, as detailed by TV Anhanguera, lasted approximately one hour. Despite the efforts of the public and, later, of the Samu team, who managed to reverse the fan’s condition in four different moments, the man, unfortunately, did not resist and died at the scene of the incident.
The vital importance of immediate first aid
In a statement to TV Anhanguera, doctor Nágylla highlighted the crucial nature of the initial procedure for the patient’s survival. She explained that the most recent guidelines from the American Heart Association (AHA) highlight the importance of maintaining telephone contact with the emergency center until professional help arrives. Furthermore, the AHA emphasizes the use of video calls when the regulatory physician identifies difficulties in performing cardiac massage, significantly increasing the chances of successful resuscitation by ensuring the correct application of techniques, an advance that can be decisive in critical situations such as this, directly linking ordinary citizens to specialized medical support in real time.
Still in the interview, the health professional highlighted that the ability to perform cardiac massage is not restricted to specialists. “If a patient stops next to you and becomes unresponsive, you call: ‘Sir, sir’. If he doesn’t respond, doesn’t breathe, immediately call the 192 emergency center and report what is happening. Start compressions immediately. That’s what saves lives”, he concluded, reinforcing that the quick and correct action of any citizen can be the difference between life and death.
