Colorado resident catches bear inside truck when opening door: video captures scare in Steamboat Springs

In an unexpected event in Colorado, a man came across a bear inside his truck at the exact moment he was opening the vehicle door. The unusual scene was captured by a home security camera, quickly going viral on social media.

The recording was made by a Nest camera owned by Justin Pickar, installed at his home in the city of Steamboat Springs. The images clearly show Andy Kerrigan’s encounter with the wild animal in front of the house.

The recording details Kerrigan opening the passenger door of her truck, revealing the presence of the bear already accommodated inside. Bears are often attracted to vehicles in residential areas, especially if there is food or strong-smelling trash left on display, a common behavior in regions where the animals’ natural habitat approaches cities, such as Steamboat Springs, where incidents like this become more likely.

After the scare, Kerrigan reported that the animal had apparently entered through the open window, and quickly retreated to the front of the car. Contrary to expectations, the bear did not immediately exit through the open door, preferring to continue its search for food inside the vehicle.

To resolve the situation, the resident had to improvise, taking a wooden board. With it, he managed to intimidate the bear and finally make it leave the inside of the truck.
