Former world ski champion Markus Eisenbichler has started a new professional stage. The athlete joined the support team of the Austrian Nordic combined team.
At 35 years old, the six-time world champion returns to the winter sports scene, about a year after announcing the end of his competitive career. He moved to Austria, where he will improve technical support for Nordic combiners, focusing on the materials area. The information was officially confirmed by the federation last Wednesday.
Collaboration with Johannes Lamparter and Lisa Hirner
“My goal is to share my knowledge,” said Eisenbichler. He added that, as an athlete, his greatest passion has always been aerodynamics and equipment, aspects that he now intends to pass on to help competitors. Among the athletes who will receive their support are former world champion Johannes Lamparter and Lisa Hirner, who finished third at a World Championship.
The end of his career as a skier and the titles won
Previously, skier Markus Eisenbichler had ended his career. Considered Germany’s most successful skier at world championships, he had struggled to remain among the elite, competing unsuccessfully for a place on the World Cup team, which led to his decision to quit.
Since the end of 2024, Eisenbichler has assumed the position of senior police commissioner, a notable transition after his sporting life. The move to a police career and subsequent return to winter sports demonstrate Eisenbichler’s versatility in different professional areas before reintegrating into the competitive environment. During his career on the track, he won the individual gold medal at the 2019 World Championships in Seefeld, as well as five other gold medals in team competitions. In 2022, at the Beijing Olympics, he also secured bronze with the team.
