Meta’s communications platform recently implemented a robust suite of updates focused on improving privacy and usability for its billions of users. Among the most anticipated innovations are tools designed to block profile intrusions and mechanisms that require biometric authentication to access specific chats, raising the level of confidentiality in the digital environment.

In addition to the protection barriers, the company also released features aimed at daily interaction, such as the possibility of recording vocal messages in ephemeral updates, expanding the limit of participants in virtual conferences and the much-requested correction of texts that have already been sent. Check out a complete detail below on the recent tools that have transformed the dynamics of the messenger.

Inclusion of voice messages in temporary publications

At the beginning of the year, the application surprised the public by allowing the recording of sound clips directly in the post tab that disappear after 24 hours. This change gave Internet users the chance to share quick audio moments with their network of contacts, without having to type a single word on the screen.

According to the platform’s developers, this alternative was created to make interactions more intimate and authentic. The idea is to directly benefit those people who prefer the practicality of speaking rather than spending time drafting long paragraphs of text on their cell phone keyboard.

Another improvement implemented in this same section involved the way of interacting with other people’s publications. Inspired by Instagram’s successful mechanics, the system now allows the individual to drag the screen up and respond instantly using a quick menu made up of eight predefined emojis.

Expanding capacity for virtual group conferences

Shortly thereafter, the technology giant released a completely revamped version of its native software for the Windows operating system. The big difference with this update was the expansion of meeting rooms, now supporting up to eight members with the camera on simultaneously, or an impressive limit of 32 members just using the microphone.

Although desktop calling functionality has existed for a few years, the previous limitation restricted connection to only two individuals at a time. To take advantage of this new capacity for mass communication via the computer, just follow a simple step by step.

  • Download the latest version of the messenger directly from the official Microsoft app store;
  • Open the program on your main smartphone, access the settings menu and look for the option to link new devices;
  • Point the cell phone camera at the computer monitor to read the two-dimensional code generated on the screen;
  • Join any group or individual conversation and click the phone or camera icons located in the top right corner.

Synchronization of a single profile on multiple smartphones

In response to a historic demand from the community, in the second quarter the company released the ability to mirror the same phone number on up to four different mobile devices simultaneously.

The architecture of this innovation is based on the same technology previously implemented for using the platform in web browsers and tablets. This means that secondary devices work autonomously, eliminating the need to keep the main smartphone turned on or connected to a Wi-Fi network.

Each device establishes its own secure connection with Meta’s servers. The company guarantees that, despite this decentralization of access, the rigorous end-to-end encryption standard remains intact, ensuring that no personal data is intercepted during synchronization.

New digital shields against profile cloning

In order to curb the growing wave of virtual scams in Brazil, an extra verification barrier was introduced when changing devices. If the system detects an attempt to migrate the profile to unknown hardware, a confirmation alert will be sent to the user’s original phone.

This double check works as an emergency brake against cybercriminals who try to activate other people’s numbers remotely. Although the corporation keeps the exact algorithms that trigger this fraud alert confidential, it is known that the measure has drastically reduced cases of account hijacking.

Correction of texts after sending in chat rooms

To rival direct competitors in the technology market, the platform finally gave in and integrated the rewrite button for content that had already been fired. Users gained a grace period of exactly 15 minutes to modify any word or phrase that was sent to the recipient in error.

This tool eliminates the embarrassment of typing errors caused by rushing or autocorrect. To maintain communication transparency, the software adds a small label signaling that that dialog bubble has been changed, although it does not display the history of previous versions to participants.

Adding custom descriptions when transferring files

Media sharing has also undergone an important refinement, allowing images and video recordings to gain unprecedented descriptions before being passed on to third parties. This flexibility helps to explain the reason for sending a meme or a visual record without having to send a separate message immediately afterwards.

The benefit extends to the traffic of corporate and academic files, such as spreadsheets and documents in PDF format. The development team highlighted that attaching a brief summary to the work material facilitates immediate understanding by those who receive it, optimizing daily productivity.

Individual blocking of sensitive dialogues with facial reading

Thinking about the physical privacy of devices, specific shielding was created for chats that require absolute confidentiality. When activating this security lock, the chosen dialogue disappears from the main list and is moved to a virtual safe, access to which is only granted by recognizing the owner’s face or fingerprint.

A crucial detail of this extra layer of protection is the automatic hiding of previews on the smartphone’s lock screen. If someone sends a message to this shielded chat, the display will only show a generic warning of a new notification, without revealing the sender’s name or the content of the text.

At the moment, the system uses the same unlocking credentials as the cell phone itself to release this secret folder. However, the company’s engineers have already confirmed that future updates will allow the creation of unique numeric codes for each contact, further isolating confidential information from prying eyes.
