Nikon Z50II firmware update improves automatic switching between monitor and viewfinder

Nikon, a renowned manufacturer of photographic equipment, has released a new firmware update for its Z50II mirrorless camera. The main new feature of this software package is the inclusion of features such as automatic monitor switching.

This release encompasses a series of enhancements to the APS-C digital camera, the Nikon Z50II. Notable changes include the renaming of “Cloud Picture Control” to “Imaging Recipe”, as well as the implementation of several features and adjustments to the setup menus and focus position memory.

Changes to Z50II photos and videos

Among the main changes, the names of some items related to image control have been redefined. The “Cloud Picture Control” option is now labeled “Imaging Recipe” in camera menus.

A change has also been implemented in the photo and video capture menus. The “Picture Control” section now features the “Download Image Recipe” option, replacing the previous “Register Picture Control in the Cloud”.

Improvements to camera operation and focus

In the search for a more fluid user experience, a new option has been added to the configuration menu. Users will now find the “Remember Focus Position” feature available within the “When Registering User Settings” section.

Updated screen functions

To optimize viewing and navigation through the menus, Nikon has included a new feature in the configuration menu. The “Automatic Monitor Switching” option is now available, providing greater convenience.

Network and wireless connectivity settings

Camera connectivity has also received important improvements. A new option, “[Always turn on Wi-Fi]”, has been added to the network menu, under the path “Connect to Smartphone” > “Wi-Fi Connection (Access Point Mode)”.

Additionally, an “Idle Timeout” feature has been added to the network menu, specifically in the “Connect to FTP Server” > “Options” section, allowing for better connection management.

Other technical enhancements

As part of general adjustments, the aperture limit has been removed when recording videos in shutter priority mode, offering greater creative flexibility to videographers.

Video recording has also been optimized to avoid interruptions. Specifications have been changed so that video output continues without pauses when connecting an HDMI device, such as an external monitor, even at the end of recording.

Although the new features do not represent a drastic revolution, they translate into improvements that aim to make the camera easier to use, making the user experience more efficient and pleasant on a daily basis.

It is essential, however, that users exercise caution when installing new firmware versions. Recently, some updates have failed; therefore, unless there are specific issues that require immediate installation, it may be prudent to wait a few weeks to observe stability before proceeding with the update.
