The technological giant Microsoft recently carried out a new cycle of layoffs in its gaming division, Xbox. Approximately 3,200 company employees were affected by this recent measure.
According to published findings, the staff cuts were informed by Xbox’s executive director, Asha Sharma, during brief video calls with the impacted teams.
In certain units, such as the id Software studio, where 136 professionals were laid off, communication meetings lasted less than 60 seconds. In these meetings, participants had their microphones muted and there was no opportunity for questions.
Employees at the technology company revealed that the wave of layoffs may not have ended, with new layoffs expected. They point out that many positions are being replaced by artificial intelligence solutions.
One of the sources interviewed expressed concern about job security, questioning the continuity of jobs at Xbox studios. According to her, there is still a projection of another 1,600 cuts, raising uncertainty about the recurrence of layoffs in July, for the third consecutive year, after June 2027.
Last Wednesday, July 15, dismissed employees organized an act of rejection of the cuts. The movement was called “Save our DEVs”, in defense of laid-off professionals.
