The list of confirmed characters for the highly anticipated strategy gameTotal War: Warhammer 40,000is growing, with the inclusion of the iconic Ork warchief, Nazdreg Ug Urdgrub. Games Workshop confirmed, on Wednesday, July 22, 2026, that the charismatic leader will not only receive a new miniature for the board gameWarhammer 40,000, as well as making its debut in Creative Assembly’s digital universe.

Nazdreg is the renowned chief of the Bad Moon clan, occupying a prominent position in the Ork pantheon, just below the fearsome Ghazghkull Thraka. In a post on Warhammer Community, Games Workshop showed off Nazdreg’s stunning new miniature, complete with his Kustom Blasta X and Bad Moon banner, as well as a first screenshot of his depiction insideTotal War: Warhammer 40,000.

This new feature was highly anticipated by fans, as Nazdreg, despite its great prominence in the history of the board game, did not have an updated model released in the current century. His appearance in the new strategy title promises to revitalize interest in both the tabletop and the gaming world, directly linking the rich lore of the 40,000 universe.

Nazdreg’s presence in the game connects deeply with the story of Armageddon, a war-torn world that is central to the narrative of the 11th edition ofWarhammer 40,000. Creative Assembly has incorporated the vast influence of Armageddon intoTotal War: Warhammer 40,000, not only through characters, but also through the planet’s setting itself.

As stated by Games Workshop, Nazdreg will be one of the “main characters” that players will be able to battle or fight against inTotal War: Warhammer 40,000. He will play a crucial role in “the early stages of the game’s narrative, in events that tie directly into the decisive battles surrounding Armageddon.”

Other iconic figures confirmed for the battlefield

Nazdreg is not the only big name already secured forTotal War: Warhammer 40,000. Marneus Calgar, leader of the Ultramarines chapter of the Space Marines, will also be part of the game, as will Commissioner Sebastian Yarrick of the Astra Militarum, formerly known as the Imperial Guard. The aforementioned Ghazghkull Thraka, the prophet of Waaagh!, is also confirmed. Yarrick and Ghazghkull, in particular, share a long and intricate history, marked by mutual respect amid endless wars, which promises epic confrontations in the game.

More prominent characters are expected to be announced forTotal War: Warhammer 40,000. Expectations are high for the inclusion of more figures from the Space Marines and Astra Militarum, considering that, to date, only one representative from each faction has been confirmed. Ursula Creed, Lady Castellan of Cadia, emerges as an obvious choice for the Astra Militarum. Additionally, with the Aeldari confirmed as a launch faction, Creative Assembly is expected to introduce two space elves soon. Eldrad Ulthran, one of the most powerful Aeldari psychics, and Asurmen, the legendary Phoenix Lord of the Dire Avengers Aspect Warriors, are strong candidates. The vast universe ofWarhammer 40,000offers countless captivating character options for CA to explore.

The question arises whetherTotal War: Warhammer 40,000could incorporate a primarch into its ranks. The inclusion of a character so superior in power to the others could unbalance the game’s dynamics. However, this possibility did not prevent the primarch of the Dark Angels, Lion El’Jonson, from being playable inDawn of War 4, albeit for brief specific moments during the campaign. It remains to be seen whether Roboute Guilliman, the primarch of the Ultramarines, for example, could make a similar cameo appearance in the new strategy title.

There are currently no clear details on how these named characters will function within the campaign.Total War: Warhammer 40,000, nor how Armageddon will integrate into the main narrative. Games Workshop’s statement that Nazdreg will be a “key character” in battles and early events related to Armageddon may extend to the other confirmed heroes.

Previous Creative Assembly titles such asTotal War: Warhammer, featured Legendary Lords, powerful figures from the fantasy universe who could be played in the campaign, in multiplayer mode and in custom battles, each leading unique factions. It is not yet known whether the characters named afterWarhammer 40,000will follow a similar operating model.
