Chinese automaker XPeng has launched its second model on the Australian market, the 2026 X9, with a starting price of A$89,900 (plus on-road costs). The vehicle, unveiled on July 22, 2026, is positioned below the Luxury Car Tax (LCT) threshold in Australia, offering benefits to consumers.

The X9 is a “people mover” electric vehicle with capacity for seven passengers, larger than a Kia Carnival. It presents itself as a direct competitor to other luxury cars in the segment, such as the electric Zeekr 009 and the hybrid Lexus LM.

The Standard Range version, with front-wheel drive, starts at A$89,900 (plus on-road costs), below the A$91,661 limit for the LCT. This tax advantage also guarantees exemptions from the lucrative Tax Benefit Rate (FBT) for purchases through discounted leases.

The top-of-the-line configuration, Performance, incorporates a larger battery and all-wheel drive, costing from A$109,900 (plus on-road costs). This value is higher than that of the Volkswagen ID. Buzz GTX (A$104,990), but it’s still more affordable than the front-wheel-drive Zeekr 009 (A$115,900) and the AWD model (A$135,900).

Sales of the XPeng X9 in Australia will be made through the brand’s new official distributor, which took over operations after the closure of independent distributor TrueEV, amid a legal dispute between the companies.

All versions of the X9 come with similar equipment, including seven seats, heating and ventilation in the first two rows, second-row captain’s chairs with electrical adjustment and “zero gravity” function, 20-inch wheels, adaptive air suspension and soft-close doors.

Among additional features, the vehicle offers a 17-inch central screen, a 21.4-inch passenger screen, a five-zone climate control system, a head-up display and a complete package of advanced safety technologies.

The entry-level FWD Standard Range is powered by a 235 kW/450 Nm front electric motor and a 94.8 kWh lithium iron phosphate (LFP) battery. The estimated range is 535 km in the WLTP cycle, and acceleration from zero to 100 km/h occurs in 8.2 seconds.

DC fast charging can reach up to 537 kW, allowing a 10 to 80 percent recharge in just 12 minutes, provided there is a charging station with this capacity available in Australia.

The AWD Performance version adds a rear electric motor, totaling a combined power of 370 kW and 640 Nm, with acceleration from zero to 100 km/h in 5.9 seconds. The WLTP range for this version is 580 km, using a larger 110 kWh nickel-manganese-cobalt (NMC) battery.

This version charges even faster, with peaks of up to 542 kW, while maintaining the same estimated 12 minutes to recharge from 10 to 80 percent. Both models offer 11 kW AC home charging, with recharge times from 5 to 100 percent ranging from 9.5 to 11 hours, depending on the version.

A FWD Long Range model, which combines the 235 kW engine with the 110 kWh battery for a WLTP range of 615 km, is listed in the Australian XPeng X9 spec sheet, but has not yet gone on sale.

The 2026 XPeng X9 is now available for order, and the first deliveries are expected in the coming months.
