Driver Fernando Alonso, considered a centerpiece in the current Formula 1 transfer market, has made a blunt statement about his future. He stated that he has a contract and that he does not plan to leave his current team.

Although his agreement with Aston Martin, where the two-time champion works, is valid until the end of 2026, there is a strong expectation that the Spaniard will remain with the Silverstone-based team.

On July 23, 2026, before the Hungarian Grand Prix, Alonso surprised everyone with his answer about the future at Aston Martin and in the main motorsport category: “I have a contract, I’m not leaving”.

The Asturian driver, in fact, has an active link with the team that extends until the end of 2026. His statement during the press conference at the Hungaroring caused astonishment among those present.

When asked, along with other drivers such as Carlos Sainz and Franco Colapinto, about their career plans in F1, the Aston Martin competitor responded directly and bluntly.

With a slight smile and gesturing to indicate the firmness of his position, Alonso declared to the journalists in the room: “I have a contract, I’m not leaving.”

Moments earlier, when asked about the recent improvements that Aston Martin would implement for the weekend, the Spaniard showed great optimism regarding the team’s path.

“We are here to win races and compete for championships,” said Alonso, adding: “We haven’t started the season the way we would like, but we will get there, as we are in the process of understanding these new regulations and finding the best way to improve the car.”

Regarding the car’s upcoming updates and his participation in future development, Fernando Alonso expressed that he is “calm”.

He explained: “As I’ve mentioned several times, I’m focused on what I need to do next year and beyond. I feel refreshed, motivated and fast, but it’s also crucial that I continue to enjoy what I do.”

In contrast to Alonso’s certainty, the future of Carlos Sainz, who has also been questioned, remains uncertain. The Ferrari driver said: “Honestly, I don’t know. I still don’t have a set date. I have always said that I would wait for the European summer [winter in Brazil] to meet with my team, reflect and discuss with them, including James Vowles, about the future of the team and my own within it. I believe that during the summer I will start to make my decision, but I cannot give exact deadlines.”
