Striker Guilherme, who played for Santos in Brazil, secured his place in a select group by being called up for the MLS (Major League Soccer) All-Star Game. Representing Brazil alongside Evander, he will be part of the team that will face Mexican League stars at the festive event.
“It’s a feeling of great joy, I’m very honored by this invitation. A great opportunity to play alongside the best in the league and players who made football history”, declared the player when asked about the nomination.
The clash between the stars of the MLS and the Mexican League is scheduled for 9 pm (Brasília time) on July 29, 2026. The match will take place at the Bank of America Stadium, located in Charlotte, in the United States, broadcast on Apple TV.
The athlete arrived at Houston Dynamo less than a year ago, in December last year, after being traded by Santos for 2.1 million dollars, a value that corresponded to around R$11 million at the time. His debut at the club was marked by record-breaking performances, with seven direct goal appearances in his first four matches, including four goals and three assists.
So far, in 18 games played for the Houston team, Guilherme has accumulated nine goals and five decisive passes, consolidating his importance in the team.
“My adaptation was very quick, my teammates helped me a lot, especially the Brazilians. Life here has been very good too, wife and children are happy, this gives me peace of mind to do a good job”, said Guilherme. He also expressed surprise at the level of competition. “I was surprised that football was better than I imagined. MLS is a strong and competitive league, it’s no wonder that several stars have looked here in a special and different way.”
The MLS squad for the All-Star Game is made up of 29 players, who are chosen in three different ways: through popular voting (which includes fans, media and members of the league), by indication of the coach of each participating team or by direct decision by the MLS commissioner, Don Garber.
In the specific case of Guilherme, his call-up was the result of the choice of Ben Olsen, coach of the Houston Dynamo, recognizing his outstanding performance in the league.
Among the other big names that make up the group of MLS highlights for the event are Evander (ex-Vasco, currently at FC Cincinnati), South Korean Son Heung-Min (Los Angeles FC) and German Thomas Müller (Vancouver Whitecaps), guaranteeing a show with great talents.
“I’ve had a great time here since I arrived, I believe it’s a result of the serious and professional work I’ve always had. Seeing my family well and happy motivates me and reassures me at the same time, this way I can perform at my best on the field, which is why goals, assists and big games happen more naturally”, added Guilherme, reflecting on his current phase.
Important MLS stars, such as Lionel Messi and Rodrigo De Paul, will not be on the field at the event. Both were released under an agreement between the league and the players’ union, aimed at offering an additional rest period for athletes who participated in the World Cup. This will be the third consecutive time that Messi, the Argentine number 10, has not participated in the festive game.
