A man from the state of Idaho, in the United States, literally sacrificed his eyebrows in his quest to break a Guinness world record. The attempt, carried out on July 27, 2026, involved David Rush juggling flaming torches while riding a unicycle, a challenge that adds a significant element of danger.
Rush, known for being a prolific record holder with multiple Guinness World Records titles relating to both unicycles and juggling, expressed “undeserved confidence” before setting out to surpass the previous mark of 37 successful throws.
The challenge proved not only complicated, but dangerous, according to Rush. “Nobody includes the real danger in official regulations,” he said on social media. “The moment you pedal a unicycle forward while juggling torches, the momentum creates a draft that blows the flames directly into your face.”
In his first attempt to juggle flaming torches and the unicycle, Rush experienced rapid burns to his eyebrows and the hair on the back of his hands, an unexpected effect of the air current generated by the movement.
After the initial incident, David Rush opted for a period of practice with unlit torches to improve his technique. The official date for his record attempt has been set for Halloween 2025.
Despite the preparation, the quest for the record had its setbacks. “I set up the cameras, wet the wicks, lit the torches, got on the unicycle, and immediately dropped them all onto the concrete,” Rush said of one of his attempts. He described the moment as a “failure in less than three seconds” but emphasized his philosophy: “failure doesn’t define you, what defines it is how you react to it.”
David Rush persisted and finally found the necessary rhythm on the third official attempt. He managed an impressive 175 receptions, a number that quadrupled the previous world record.
The video recording of Rush’s performance was submitted to and analyzed by Guinness World Records. After verification, he was officially recognized as the new title holder, adding yet another achievement to his already extensive list of records.
