The screening of the film “Spider-Man: A New Day” was interrupted in a shopping mall in Cartagena, Colombia, on August 1st. The suspension occurred after a spectator released gases that caused an unbearable odor in the room, paralyzing the screening of the new superhero film. This type of interruption, caused by such an atypical incident, is rare in cinemas and demonstrates the intensity of the disturbance at the location.
Faced with the strong smell, dozens of people were immediately removed from the room. They went to the entrance hall of the Plaza Bocagrande shopping mall.
Many of those present covered their faces, showing great disgust at what had happened. Meanwhile, an entertainer dressed as Spider-Man tried to distract the audience, who were visibly bothered by the persistent bad smell. Witnesses classified the environment as unbearable.
Following the news, netizens on various social media platforms quickly dubbed the person responsible for the incident the unexpected “villain” of the exhibition. The episode generated good-humored comments, but also indignation among users.
“To ruin the atmosphere of an entire cinema like that, only God knows what that person ate,” commented one user online, expressing his astonishment at the situation.
Another internet user raised the hypothesis of a “joke gone wrong”, suggesting an intention to shock on the part of the viewer.
A third user reflected on the lack of respect and the seriousness of the act. “There is no more respect, but I don’t think anyone is so rotten as to make an entire movie theater evacuate,” he wrote.
To date, the identity of the person who caused the session to be interrupted and the room to be evacuated remains unknown. Authorities did not say whether there was any attempt to identify the person responsible for the gases.
