Grokipedia, an encyclopedia powered by artificial intelligence from Elon Musk’s company xAI, has not received updates for several months and has stopped processing new editions since April 2026. The inactivity of the platform’s review system, observed on August 7, resulted in the accumulation of thousands of user suggestions without analysis, raising questions about the continuity of a project designed to be an opponent of Wikipedia. The impact of this disruption extends to the quality and relevance of the content that other AI tools may be using, making the source increasingly less trustworthy.

The launch of the encyclopedia took place in October 2025, and in a short time, Grokipedia reached the milestone of more than 6 million articles produced by artificial intelligence. The initiative aimed to establish a different option to Wikipedia, with all content generated and verified by advanced language models. However, recent data indicates that the encyclopedia’s support mechanism is almost inoperative, and xAI has not provided any official communication about possible restructuring or abandonment of the platform.

The lack of activity also had consequences for the transparency of the service. The public feed, which previously displayed changes in real time, stopped operating, and previous records began to show glitches. With its stagnant content, Grokipedia demonstrated an inability to maintain the pace of updates essential to compete with an encyclopedia that is based on the constant contribution of an active community.

This stagnation scenario directly impacts other systems that depend on the internet as a data source. In a survey carried out by Ahrefs in March 2026, it was revealed that Grokipedia was cited in approximately 356 thousand references in various artificial intelligence tools, such as OpenAI’s ChatGPT and Google’s AI Mode. Therefore, without proper maintenance and correction, obsolete or inaccurate encyclopedia content runs the risk of being continuously disseminated by search algorithms and AI assistants, compromising the quality of global information.
