Baby Ayla Emanuelly, just one month old, who had been missing since August 6, 2026, in Campo Grande, was found alive in the early hours of August 9, 2026, in Pedro Juan Caballero, a Paraguayan city close to the border with Brazil. A couple who had the child in their custody were detained by authorities. The identity of the suspects has not yet been officially released.
The Civil Police confirmed the information, and the Paraguayan authorities assured that the baby is in good health.
Ayla was taken from her mother after the 17-year-old teenager accepted an offer of R$100 from a woman to look after her daughter. The young woman went to the suspect’s residence on August 6, 2026, accompanied by her sister, who is 12 years old.
According to the mother’s statement, upon arrival, they both received water to drink. The teenager assured that she did not lose consciousness, but her sister fell asleep and only woke up around 8 pm.
The mother reported having been threatened and coerced into handing over her own daughter. She was told that if she refused, she and her sister would be “thrown into a hole.” After the threat, the child was taken from the scene.
Preliminary information indicated that the woman responsible for the kidnapping had fled to Paraguay, leading the Specialized Police Station for the Protection of Children and Adolescents (DEPCA) to call the Civil Police of Ponta Porã.
The Bipartite Command, an integration task force between the Brazilian and Paraguayan police, was immediately mobilized. Collaboration and exchange of information between the two countries were crucial for the Paraguayan anti-kidnapping police to identify the residence where the baby was.
Ayla’s rescue took place during the early hours of August 9, 2026, culminating in the arrest of the couple who were with the child.
Details of baby Ayla Emanuelly’s kidnapping
The police report recorded that the baby’s mother met the suspected woman through an online group dedicated to selling children’s clothing.
After some conversations, the woman proposed paying R$100 for the teenager to take care of her supposed daughter. The young woman accepted the proposal and went to the indicated address, located in the University District, taking her sister with her.
Upon arrival at the property, the two were greeted by the woman. According to Ayla’s mother’s testimony, there were approximately 10 men at the scene, in addition to the suspect herself.
The teenager claimed to have been threatened again and forced to hand over the baby. She was warned that if she didn’t cooperate, she and her sister would be “thrown into a hole.”
The two sisters left the residence around 1 am on August 7, 2026. The baby’s mother’s cell phone was also taken by the criminals.
On August 7, 2026, the Ministry of Justice, using the Amber Alert Brasil platform, issued a missing person notice for Ayla Emanuelly.
Amber Alert is a notification program originating in the United States, adopted in Brazil to quickly disseminate information in cases of disappearance, suspected abduction or kidnapping of children.
The investigation into what happened is under the responsibility of the Specialized Police Station for the Protection of Children and Adolescents (DEPCA).
