The Federal Highway Police (PRF) made a significant seizure of 298 kilos of cocaine on August 4, 2026, during an inspection on BR-277, in Balsa Nova, in the metropolitan region of Curitiba. The drug was meticulously hidden in the fuel tank of a truck, being discovered thanks to the keen sense of smell of the corporation’s sniffer dogs.
Discovery of the drug in a hidden compartment
The PRF team, specialized in operations with dogs, approached the vehicle transporting wheat bound for Curitiba. During the detailed inspection, the animals indicated the presence of illicit substances in the tank area. This specialized approach is crucial to uncovering complex hiding places, often used by traffickers trying to evade supervision.
An in-depth search confirmed the suspicion, revealing a secret compartment that housed several tablets of the substance. The amount seized represents a serious blow to trafficking in the region.
The trafficking route and the arrest of the driver
The driver of the truck, a 47-year-old Paraguayan man, was detained in the act. He informed the police that the illicit shipment was destined for the state of Santa Catarina. The individual was taken to the Federal Police Station in Curitiba for legal proceedings for drug trafficking.
