Masked man terrorizes six people and asks woman in Philadelphia: ready to die?
A man wearing a scary-looking mask, often associated with the character Chucky from horror films, approached six individuals at random in the city of Philadelphia, in the United States, on August 12, 2026. In one of the most shocking encounters, he asked a woman who was jogging if she was “ready to die”, according to information from local police.
The suspect, whose age is estimated to be between 16 and 20 years old, spread panic among residents who were carrying out their morning routines, acting in a disruptive manner for around 15 minutes, and has remained at large since then. The sequence of acts generated great apprehension and mobilized the authorities in the search for the person responsible.
The masked man’s action began with his entry into a Dunkin’ Donuts unit shortly after 5:20 am. As reported by Philadelphia Police Captain Jason Smith in a press conference held on August 17, 2026, the individual was denied treatment because of his behavior considered erratic while wearing a “distinctive, Halloween-style face mask.”
After being stopped at the cafeteria, the man ran towards people who were nearby, using a cell phone to record the scenes. This attitude indicates that he sought to record the fear caused to his victims, revealing a disturbing motivation.
In one of the incidents, the masked man approached a man wearing a reflective vest, saying a few words before starting a chase, but he was unsuccessful in catching him.
Shortly afterwards, he turned his attention to a woman running down one of Philadelphia’s streets, beginning a new approach.
Captain Smith detailed the terrifying confrontation: “He held his cell phone in front of her and asked, ‘Are you ready to die?'”
The officer added to the description of the events, stating that the woman showed great fright and, upon repeating the question, “Clearly she wasn’t ready to die, so she ran away.” In an attempt to escape, she ended up injuring her leg and desperately asking for help.
