Japanese company Pioneer announced on August 18, 2026 that it will discontinue the car navigation application for smartphones, “COCCHi”. The service will officially close on November 30, 2026, three years after its launch on the market. The decision marks the end of the company’s initiative in the mobile navigation segment in a highly competitive scenario.
Deadlines and suspension of new subscriptions for users
The service interruption will be carried out in stages, affecting different types of users. Starting September 16, 2026, new subscriptions for all COCCHi plans will be suspended, and automatic renewal will be turned off. For free plan users, access to the app’s features will also be stopped on the same date. Those on a paid monthly plan will have auto-renewal turned off on September 16th, and the service will end on the expiration date of each individual contract, with October 16th, 2026 being the cutoff date for this group.
Annual Users and Detailed Refund Process
Customers who have opted for a paid annual plan will have the opportunity to use the service for a longer period of time. They will be able to continue accessing COCCHi until November 30, 2026, the application’s final operating date. Pioneer said that users with an annual plan who do not use the service after December 1, 2026 will be eligible for a refund. The amounts and procedures for refunding money will depend on the payment method used in each application store. Complete details about this process will be made available individually on the company’s website and through notices within the application itself.
Disposal of Personal Information After Termination
Pioneer has assured that user information collected by the application will be treated securely after the service ends. All stored data will be deleted at the end of the retention period determined by the company, aiming to protect customer privacy.
COCCHi’s place in the navigation market and the future of Pioneer
Launched in September 2023, COCCHi sought its space in a segment dominated by giants such as Google Maps, Waze and Apple Maps. The discontinuation reflects the challenges of maintaining a competitive navigation app in a market where free, pre-installed services on smartphones already offer robust functionality and constant updates. Pioneer stated that the opinions and requests received during the COCCHi operating period will be used to improve the brand’s future products and services, indicating a strategic reassessment of its solutions in the automotive and technology sector.
