Andreessen Horowitz, known as a16z, announced the creation of a new investment fund, “Era das Máquinas”, which raised US$1.1 billion. The main purpose of the initiative is to accelerate and boost the physical application of artificial intelligence in the market.
Unlike the company’s usual approach, which tends to focus on software scalability, this new capital will be directed primarily to the hardware sector. In a disclosure on its portal, a16z detailed that the investment will cover all vital infrastructure for AI, from components such as chips and memory to the construction of data centers and advanced robotics. This shift in focus signals a realization that advances in AI now critically depend on robust physical foundations.
The a16z publication emphasized the need for advances in various segments for the full development of artificial intelligence. Among the points mentioned are the search for faster and more efficient systems, memories with greater bandwidth and reduced cost, scalable interconnections between systems, and low-power edge devices for AI interaction with the environment. Furthermore, the company highlights the demand for support infrastructure such as refrigeration, new materials, electricity and adequate physical space.
The company described artificial intelligence as the “most powerful tool ever developed to solve problems and create abundance.” This positioning reinforces a16z’s view that AI progress represents a “social and national imperative”, indicating the urgency and strategic importance of these investments for the global future of technology.
