An ambitious new fan-developed project will allow PC users of Red Dead Redemption 2 to explore an expanded version of Mexico, specifically the Nuevo Paraíso area, which is not present in the official version of the game. The modding community is filling a gap that the developer, Rockstar Games, did not explore, bringing significant new features to the acclaimed title.
Rockstar Games has been criticized for the lack of investment in additional single-player content in Red Dead Redemption 2, directing its efforts towards the online mode, Red Dead Online, which has not met with the same success.
Another point of frustration for fans is the lack of an update for the new generation of consoles for Red Dead Redemption 2, even after almost six years since the launch of current consoles. This gap left by the developer has been seen as an opportunity for the modding community.
Fortunately, the game has one of the most active and talented modding communities, which, although it mainly benefits PC gamers, has been a constant source of new experiences.
Among the recent releases that stand out, the “Mafia 1899” mod has won over a large number of fans, introducing several new missions and features that revitalize the gameplay.
This mod offers 13 different mission types, and the assassination activities proved so engaging that many players suggested they be turned into a standalone game mode.
The “Mafia 1899” expansion is available for free and can serve to keep players engaged while they wait for the release of the Mexico mod, scheduled for September.
YouTuber Rixus is responsible for the next major release, titled “Red Dead Redemption 2: Nuevo Paraíso – The Forgotten Frontier”, with a confirmed date for September 16th. The news was first shared by SynthPotato.
You can watch the trailer for “Nuevo Paraíso – The Forgotten Frontier” below.
Mexico is not an area that can be accessed conventionally in Red Dead Redemption 2, unless players use glitches in the game to go beyond the map’s boundaries.
However, the city of Nuevo Paraíso, in Mexico, was already part of the narrative of the first Red Dead Redemption.
Creator Rixus dedicated himself to adapting Nuevo Paraíso so that its setting was in harmony with the 1907 setting of Red Dead Redemption 2.
“Explore a Mexico on the brink of transformation, where beautiful landscapes and growing settlements coexist with political unrest, government oppression, and a population struggling under an increasingly unstable regime,” describes the mod’s synopsis.
Players who install this expansion will be able to discover new settlements, hidden locations, varied activities, encounters, mysteries and secrets, as well as rich wildlife, locals and classic characters as they explore the new virtual state.
Therefore, “Nuevo Paraíso” is not just a landscape to be admired; the region promises to be vibrant and full of life, just like Rockstar’s base game.
The area will feature a diversity of settlements, ranging “from quiet towns and isolated farms to railroads, bandit hideouts and territories under government control.”
It will be possible to travel by train and even rob them, negotiate with merchants, invade gang hideouts, uncover secrets and much more, with this mod that expands Nuevo Paraíso beyond its original borders.
The release is just around the corner, with “Red Dead Redemption 2: Nuevo Paraíso – The Forgotten Frontier” scheduled for September 16th.
The mod will be distributed exclusively through NexusMods, confirming its availability for PC only and requiring a legal copy of Red Dead Redemption 2 to use.
While the project is promising, there is legitimate concern that Rockstar Games may step in with a DMCA notice to remove the content.
“Mafia 1899” expansion adds elements of organized crime to the game
There is a widespread feeling that Rockstar Games may have ceased development on Red Dead Redemption 2.
Rumors about a possible update for the new generation of consoles circulated for years, but never materialized, despite the multiple opportunities that Rockstar had, especially with the delays of Grand Theft Auto VI.
It’s possible that players’ skepticism will prove wrong in the future, or that Red Dead Redemption 2 will follow the path of other games that have opted out of more details about the original experience.
However, the PC version of Red Dead Redemption 2 benefits from an incredibly creative modding community, and it’s the free “Mafia 1899” mod that’s currently attracting attention.
Developed by NexusMods user M8Tmods, this new expansion mod integrates features and activities inspired by 2K’s Mafia franchise into Red Dead Redemption 2.
The mod introduces a new “Mafia Bar” with new drink interactions, as well as an interactive meeting table with voice commands and NPC settings, allowing players to take on varied roles.
There is also a bedroom and “the boss’s office”, a new element of the mod that works as a starting point for the new missions created.
The mod offers 13 types of missions, including extortion, wagon theft, boss protection, assassinations, intimidation, VIP defense, associate rescue, home visits, negotiations, bribes and robberies.
Several of the missions in “Mafia 1899” were directly inspired by “Mafia 1: Definitive Edition”.
Both the wagon robbery mission and the prostitute intimidation mission have direct parallels with missions from “Mafia 1: Definitive Edition”, serving as a tribute to the original game and justifying the mod’s title.
Full details on each mission type are available on the mod page, but it’s worth highlighting some of the assault options, which are quite varied.
In the “Police Files Heist” heist, players must break into a police station to find incriminating mafia files, taking advantage of the opportunity to steal valuables.
In “Booze Car Heist”, inspired by “A Trip to the Country” from Mafia 1, the mission takes players to a farm on the outskirts of Saint Denis to steal alcoholic beverages and deliver them to nearby docks.
Other missions include “Church Robbery”, which involves smuggling goods into the catacombs of a church controlled by a rival mafia, and “Warehouse Robbery”, where players transport illicit cargo from the Castille Cotton Company warehouse, also under the control of an opposing gang.
The mod was released just a few days ago and has already received a warm reception from the Red Dead community.
“This is the coolest mod ever, what a genius idea!” wrote one enthusiastic player, while another commented: “This is truly fantastic! More than I could have asked for or expected.”
“I remember about three years ago when I thought about how cool a mob mod would be. Now my dreams have come true,” expressed another person.
The mod is compatible with both the Arthur Morgan and John Marston story segments in the game.
The assassination missions, in particular, were so successful that some players petitioned the mod’s creator to turn them into a game mode of their own.
If the intention is to renew the Red Dead Redemption 2 experience, this mod could be exactly the solution fans are looking for.
Concerns about “Nuevo Paraíso” expansion in Mexico
With a stunning trailer, talented creators have given fans something they have wanted for years. However, the launch of this new feature comes with some valid questions.
There is no doubt that Red Dead Redemption 2 is, in itself, a masterpiece, with an engaging narrative, a vast open world to explore and unforgettable characters.
However, with fans always hungry for more content, it’s no surprise that the dedicated community of modders has found a way to fulfill those desires with this upcoming new release.
