Advance sales of the highly anticipated game Grand Theft Auto VI (GTA 6) registered a significant increase of 436% on August 27, the day Rockstar Games released an extended gameplay trailer on the Netflix platform, according to data from Sensor Tower.

The strong pace of acquisition continued in the subsequent period, increasing total growth in two days to 572% in relation to the average of the thirty days preceding the announcement.

Most of this growth was seen on the PlayStation 5 (PS5) platform, which saw a 606% jump on August 27 alone, while purchases for the Xbox Series X|S rose 127%.

Furthermore, a highlight is consumers’ preference for the Ultimate Edition of the title, surpassing sales of the standard version, as previously indicated by Take-Two’s CEO, Strauss Zelnick.

Currently, Sensor Tower calculates a total of 4.86 million units reserved globally, generating revenue of approximately US$476 million. Of this amount, around 77% of purchases were made by PlayStation players.

PlayStation 5 maintains its lead in advance game reservations

The hegemony of the PS5 over the Xbox console in the sales statistics of the highly anticipated GTA 6 is a pattern that has been observed since June, the period in which Sensor Tower began monitoring the game’s reservations.

Monitoring began shortly after Rockstar Games officially made pre-sales of the game available. The most recent data only confirms the advantage of the Sony platform, particularly evident after the gameplay was broadcast on Netflix.

The presentation, which lasted around 26 minutes, generated an immediate boost in sales. Rockstar Games has historically maintained strict control over gameplay releases since the first trailers, which heightened the impact of the recent broadcast.

The reaction in pre-sales on August 27th represented the peak intensity recorded by Sensor Tower for the title, being the biggest increase in the period analyzed.

Sensor Tower projections for future GTA 6 sales

Sensor Tower analysts predict that an even larger volume of consumers will pre-order the game as the release date approaches. This trend could change the distribution between editions, such as Ultimate and Standard, and also the percentages of sales by platform before the official debut.
