Officers discovered 37-year-old doctor Gassi Paola de Souza Mazia dead inside an apartment located in the northern Parana city of Maringa on the 6th. Authorities immediately arrested the victim’s partner at the scene, filing formal femicide charges against him in connection with the medical professional’s killing. Her infant child survived.

Military Police patrol units initially went to the residential building following an emergency distress call and verified that the tenant had died inside the room. Investigators from the Parana Civil Police subsequently tracked the partner down to his mother’s residence in nearby Mandaguari, where officers placed him under armed guard while medical staff treated knife wounds on his body after the couple had recently resumed their romantic relationship.

The City Hall of Marialva dismissed the detained suspect from his municipal civil service post and condemned the act, declaring that “the municipal administration vehemently and absolutely repudiates any act of violence against women and reaffirms that conduct threatening the life, dignity, and integrity of any person is unacceptable.”

Gassi Paola de Souza Mazia treated local residents at the Nova Alianca basic health unit operating in the neighboring municipality of Sarandi. The municipal administration released an official note of condolence marking the loss of the dedicated public healthcare worker.

Local officials in Sarandi extended their condolences to relatives and coworkers while highlighting the physician’s professional service to the community. The administration stated that throughout her career in the city, she devoted her knowledge, practical experience, and professional dedication to caring for local citizens, leaving a legacy in public health that colleagues will remember with lasting gratitude. City leaders also conveyed solidarity to everyone grieving the loss, expressing: “Faced with the circumstances of her death, we also manifest our repudiation of all forms of violence against women.”

A healthcare coworker expressed deep sorrow immediately following the confirmation of Gassi Paola de Souza Mazia’s death. Mourning the loss publicly, the colleague stated: “Our wonderful doctor, what sad news; may God comfort the hearts of the entire family in this difficult moment, my sincere condolences.”

Business owner Fagner Gomes, who operates the beauty salon where the physician was a regular client, recounted the close personal bond and daily affection she shared with employees at the commercial venue.

Gomes explained that she was a cherished friend who greeted everyone with a smile and brightened the salon through her infectious laughter, leaving an enduring mark across the entire establishment. The Parana Civil Police continues to lead the homicide inquiry.
